Like i said in an earlier post... i got ma car working SWEEET AS!!!
I decided to set the idle which i did... it's a wee bit jumpy so i set it at 900, so it goes up and down from 850-950 but not quickley this will be in a 2/3minute time frame!
Anyway with that set i got out tha timing gun and connected it to tha loop wire as per the workshop manual!
Checked the timing *UH OH* i couldn't see the timing marks at all!
I retarded tha CAS fully and i got the marker onto the last mark which is | where as all the other marks are ||
What could this be from?
Has a belt slipped or do i need to get ma timing belt realined/replaced?
any help atall is greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Craig.

Visualy inspect the marker plate, make sure it isn't bent, it might be out of allignment there, if the car is running sweet then assume all is well, if your timming is too advanced you will notice preignition, if it's too retarded you will see your temprature rise and a loss of power.
I recently went through getting my timming set, is was a major pain in the arse, but mine started from a bent marker, from that the tech that replaced the belt couldn't get the belt to allign on the first marker, so he moved the belt to the next closest setting etc.. etc..
But belts do slip, the closer they get to the 100,000k point the high the chance of it slipping, also around that time the belt is also getting closer to breaking.

oh ok! thanks mate... yeh the belt is getting to about 80'000KMs so i'll book it in for sometime in tha next couple of weeks!
thanks again,
Craig.

BTW what is "preignition" like???
what does it sound like? etc
When i've got ma CAS retarded so that the timing is almost where it should be and try to start cold she stutters and the lights dim and flash untill she gets going!

Pre-Ignition will sound like something is rattling under the bonnet, you will normaly hear it when accelerating.
Pre-Ignition is bad for the motor, well the tops of the pistons and the big-end bearings most of all.

mmm would that sound like a McDeisle Truck???
I've really got this worry coz when i accelerate i get that kinda deisle truck noise! but it is running on all 4cyls i know that!!!

oh dear. I thnk this is my car, I have a rattling under the bonnet when i floor it. =(
Damn does this mean my belts about to break? And could this be why my det sensor was showing up errors.

nar dood if it is due to this... i'd be blaming it on tha silly NIT that 'power tuned' your car! he's prolly over advanced your timing!

hey dude
isn't pre-ignition when your car wants to keep running when you turn the key off.
and detonation is when the motor is pinging/rattling!

UHOH...
Something is VERY WRONG...
now i'm getting HUGE and i mean HUGE back fires thru tha intake! Untill she warms up then she runs like a dream! *when trying to accelerate that is!

It's been a while since I've driven my car but I have heard this 'rattle' under the bonnet too. It sounds more like a car diesel than a truck diesel. So does this mean that I need to tard the CAS?

damn. i know the feeling. it all goes sweet.. then the next day, all screwed up again.
maybe just get the timing belt changed then set it all up sweet again and see how it goes.
just a thought :hairgrow:

Here in Canada (where its so bloody hard to find parts for the pulsar/exa) nissan quoted me $450 for a new cas, and I went to a junkyard, and they said the cas is a dealer only part for some gay reason.

There's a guy on the Nissan forums that has a few CAS's he's willing to sell. These are for CA18DE.
Go here and look for boost_boy. He's in the U.S. so shipping is gonna cost ya but the price for the CAS is real good.

P.S. Don't buy them all because I still want to get one when I'm not dead broke.
