HELP!!!
I'm getting alot of blue smoke from the exhust after the CA18DET install. The engine fired up, idles fine. However smoke and oil is sputting out of the exhust.
I did a compression test on all four cylinders and all are within specs - 160PSI (spec is 142 - 172 PSI). Theres no way a damaged ring or valve seal can produce the huge amount of smoke. Also, the oil light was on, I suspect the oil pressure is low due to the burning of oil.
I'm hoping it's not the turbo. But somehow I have a bad feeling it might be the turbo seal.
Please help if anyone knows what might be wrong as this is my first turbo engine.

did you do the compression test cold or hot???
could be valve seals...but you have to do the test both ways, cold(stone) and hot(operating temp) to figure out if it's the valve seals.
but i would put my money on the turbo.

The compression test was done after the engine warmed up. I'll do another one tomorrow (cold engine).

This will rule out if the oil is coming from the turbo.Check just before the throttle butterfly.
Oil light being on may be the sensor, you should still have plenty of pressure even if burning oil.
A second hand turbo can be picked up reasonably cheaply.

Hey,
yeah - check oyur inlet pipe for pools of oil - that will tell oyu if the turbo is stooged. But even if its not completely full of oil - could be oild going through the exhasut side of the turbo (not through the motor) but I think this is rare... Did oyu feel if there was any movement of the shaft on the turbo charger???

like boostinhard said, chek your intake pipping if you see any oil your turbo seal is stuffed.. if so, juste bought a t28.. dont waste money buying another t25 :) it's like buying another ca16de insted of a ca18det hehe!

hey dude
Checking the intake pipe isn't the only way to check if the turbo is stuffed..
Say if the Intake pipe is clean... what then?? Remember there are 2 sides to a turbo! It could be the exhaust seal too... When on idle the exhaust will suck the oil from the seal and a thick cloud will form... especially when you take off... but once you've driven the smoke will become thinner...
Another way to check is, when you start the car in the morning or when its stone cold. After a few seconds from start up, check the exhaust and see if there is blue smoke. Depending on how bad your seals are... If its slightly leaking... the smoke will disappear as the heat generated will expand the seals therefore sealing... If its pretty bad, then the smoke will constantly blow out.... unless your motor is stuffed (but a compression test has been performed)
Another thought.... it could be your valve stem seals!... sucking in oil!
Hope you find whats wrong

Checked the compression side of the turbo, puddle of oil there. Took apart the turbo and found it wan't in a good condition. Time for a rebuild.
