I have an 87 model exa which has the ca16de engine. The engine is a mess. Was blowing excessive smoke and i got reported to the EPA.

i got it checked out and it will cost me approximately $2500 to get my engine re-conditioned. Unfortunately i don't have that kind of cash as i'm at uni so my only affordable option is to get a secondhand engine.

Is this a good idea? Seems a bit risky to me as the next engine i get could be thrashed too.

I have been given prices between $400 - $900 to swap it over with my current engine.

Some of these secondhand engines are australian engines and some are low km inmports.

Which is the better option?

phffffft dont worry about getting a ca18de ull have to use a different clutch etc because the ca16de and 18de have diff flywheels and clutches
bnut if u give me a call i can organise u a motor(ca16de) for 125$ with turn over warranty or about 350 with full waRRANTY
ALL U WILL HAVE TO CHANGE IS THE COIL SETUP AS OVERSEAS MODELS USE A SINGLE COIL AND PLUG LEADS
MY NUMBER IS 0402629583 TRAVIS

bugger... would have done that if i checked the board earlier. I ended up buying a low km ca16 import engine for $550aust. thanks for ur responses.

my intial plan was to get the ca18 but it required changing of other parts, as Kameleon said.
