My car has a warped sense of temperature.....when its cold she runs hot when its hot she runs colder. Have had radiator core replaced, have had compression test done (ok) have just tonight had cooling system flushed( thanks to Rhys and Billy)but she still runs too hot (not overheating-hot) with thermo fan working overtime...any one have ideas?????
Does the fact that my air con fan has had a fire and is all melted make a difference?
Does the air con fan kick in when over a certain temp and work with thermo fan?
A big Thanks to all that can offer insight:)

hav fun budd

where is the engine temperature sensor?

The one for the thermostatic switch (fan) is on the exit tank of the radiator. Same two wire unit as the ECU's temp sensor which measures coolant temp on exit from the engine.

Tried a new thermostat ??

Thanks for that B
Does that switch tell the fan when to come on? Cause who ever worked on this baby before had dodged up the wiring. My wiring is properly insulated, the one on Danielle's is just using the same clips you would use for speakers and is wrapped in electrical tape. It's pretty wet.
Thinking of just using my water temperature switch on it for the time being. Any idea on cost of a new proper one?
Also thermostat wasn't changed too long ago. For a suposed cooler one.

No worries rhys,
the temp sensor there is wired into a thermostatic switch which I think from memory is located on the center of the fan unit itself. That switch module should be seperate from the sensor and should be easily replaceable.
Thermostat won't affect the fan cycling on/off unless it is staying jammed shut, and therefore there'll be a big delay in the hot coolant reaching the other side of the radiator as the thermostat only has a tiny hole to allow flow when it is closed up (low temp). You could try removing it & seeing if it makes any difference but the problem is more likely to be the thermo switch onto the fan more than anything. Still guessing along with u tho ;)

ahh ok so it doesn't control the fan. I put in mine anyhow, now the fan isn't kicking in till the guage is reading about 3/4 way hot. It's pretty annoying. I'm going to try and get a replacment sensor today, or atleast re try Danielle's sensor.
Pretty pissed off actually, will it hurt to just try it with only water in the radiator? We've bought coolant twice this weekend. $20 each it's starting to get abit expensive :(

ok so after my sensor failed to help any, I replaced Danielle's sensor back in and now the thermo fan won't turn off once the engine has a little bit of heat in it.
Time for a new one me thinks...
