OK Ladies and Gentlemen,
The time has come near when the maniac hits the streets of Sydney again. Looking to switch my alarm over to a different brand. My requirements are:
* 3 point alarm (but they are standard in most cases?)
* shock sensor
* central locking hookup
* auto arming
* ultra sonic (microwave) AND
* electric window winder.
Are there any such systems that cater for this?
What other systems come close to this, and who supplies them.
Looking at spending ~$350-600 depending on the system's capabilities.

I got an Alpine alarm. Not sure if they're available in australia anymore but it uses a radar scanning system. No shock sensor.. if you walk up to it within a meter and loiter around then it will chirp. You enter the second zone inside the car it goes off. Handy for targa roof cars and drop-tops because you can leave the roof off and the moment someone sticks their hand in it will trigger the alarm.

I also got the Mongoose one. There is a certain model which certain insurance companies will show interest if you have it.
I dont know about central locking.
Just never been a fan incase it fails.

I dont know about central locking.

if it fails you can still use your key and disable remote locking.

if its failed then yeah ytou can use the key. True.
You need to fork out extra money to fix it. True.
If the problem has just arisen and you are unaware of the problem. Good buy to some shit in you glove box or any thing else that can be pinched in a split second. True.

but you can generally hear both motors locking.. it's failed a couple of times, and my alarm just goes beep beep beep if it didn't lock properly.
locking motors are relatively cheap to replace.. like $40-50 bucks at most from jaycar.

There are alot of different types of car alarms which are available.
If you set a certain standard of what you want then you are able to find a variety of different names... But you should find out if there has been any feed back.
I find it funny that a car alarm has a life time warranty... Do you get your money back of your car is stolen??? only joking.
there are other options which you might want to consider. Such as;
Pager. (very handy)
black wiring
microwave sensor; is a sensor they place in the middle console and there are two stages... One stage protects the car, and it will emitt a chirp. Signalling people that the car is armed etc... the 2nd stage is a instant alarming. The sensor is fully adjustable.
remote start. ; its cool and the chicks dig it... but you'll look like a dick if you leave it in gear and start the car.
Anti jacking; locks the doors when you start the
car. Kinda annoying.
battery back up siren. siren will last for about 15 minutes. before she goes flat.
i can't think of anything more at the moment.
But i bought a remote start alarm from www.commandoalarms.com for $us150. It only has a 1 point immobiliser. I had no problems with the alarm. Although my car was stolen 2 weeks ago... they had the keys, which doesn't count.
Another nice trick is to have a second siren under the dash. So when the are trying to hot wire the car... there is a 130db high pitch alarm screaming at their ears.

Hey..
call Auto Micro and ask for Andrew.. remind him he did the Blue NX in the basement of a building at Chatswood and you want the same deal..
his number is 02 9553 9342
I think i paid $550 for all that... and onsite installation
the model is the AW .... Something something something.. (405) i think or something like that..
at the worst he should be able to call up my name in the system and see my invoice.
I have his card here if you want it.. let me know

Hi,
I have mongoose too - but not the microwavey sensor thing??? It works well! As for central-locking = never had a problem with it and it's AWESOME - would never go back, it's so handy. I think it only cost me $50 a door to get the central (Express Tinting)?
Good luck - ring Mongoose directly to have a chat to the technicians. Don't think you get the warranty if you buy the kit from Mongoose and get someone else to install it... But Express Tinting price was the same anyway...
Sorry to crap on ;)

just remember that the Mongoosse has a 1yr warinty (So do alot of others) while the Viper has a Lifetime
Black wiring means nothing when you can get install manuals off the net
Pager can be added to the viper
Remote start can be added to the Viper (but only in autos)
Central locking can be added to the Viper
Microwave can be added to the viper
Anti jacking is standared in the Viper
Pezzo siren under the dash cald the pain genarator (normal humans can candle 30sec of this till they start to loos hearing)
electric window winder can be added to the viper
Veichal recovarey can be added to the viper (Car shuts down after 3min of being jacked)
Grovie led's
Bat back up can be added to the viper
Extra sirens can be added to the viper
Tilt sensors can be added to the viper (Car jacks up to steal your wheels alarm goes off)
Dule stage Shock sensor as standed
Voice warn away (you can record your own voic sayin "F#@k off this is my car" if you want)
The only thing stopping you from adding anhy thing to the viper is your budget

If I told you, I would have to kill you :D
It's one of the brands mentioned above though - it is able to have add-ons installed so I will be doing that at a later point of time.

Brant Security at Five dock DO quite good alarms , 3 point immobilizer , black wiring harness , remote start and paging for just a few of their options. Might be an option - max cost less than $500.00

OK, this thread has served its purpose (for now), but for future reference:
IF you can install yourself, have a chat to the guys at activeelectronics.com.au
They are in Tasmania, but will post it out to you.
Today I bought a Rhino GTS from them for $149, which does all you want except for the window winder (Rhino say $449 installed). This unit CAN be fitted with a window winder as well as a microwave sensor - which is a pretty good idea for when the targa's are off.
Guy just rang me to say it was in the post - so seem good with service.
Have a look at the following on this board - service manuals (including electrical/wiring) are available for download:
http://forum.nissanexa.com/showthread.php?t=8817
Update: Got the alarm, no hassles. Alarm is not that hard to install although it takes a bit of time. So far I've put in the alarm (and immobiliser) and set up the central locking with it (see http://www.nissanexa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13998 ). Haven't done Rear boot release, Power Windows or Microwave sensor yet. If you have the time and feel reasonably comfortable with doing a bit of wiring, you can safe yourself a fortune.

i might as well add on to this ... i had a black widow alarm on my nxr but now i just finished installing a gsm rhino alarm to my mx6 ....
it features
instant ringing and sms when someone is near the car or alarm is activated
a microphone so u can hear wats going on around ur car and u can scare the thief away by talking
shock sensor
window winder
keyless entry
panic mod
u can pout a prepaid sim in there which is wat i done and charged the sim up with 100 bucks
all black wiring and remote engine start
immobilieser
and fuel cut immboliser
two sirens
u can sms the car to lock the car check its status u can arm and dis arm the alarm immboliser its pretty full on .... its better than those quick track where u gotta pay for tracking ... this one u can track the sim card cause it is like a phone and stays active so when it gets stolen u just call the cops and they track the simcard and with the simcard should be the car
and shit load more there like 500 wiring in the car no joke took me 4 hours to install it and set up the sim in it pretty good and very happy with it
it cost me 400 bucks but i installed it i wouldnt no how much it would cost any one to install it
but if iwas gonna install it for someone i would ask 400 bucks to install it ... cause it is a very difficult proceedure

I have a mongoose too. Very good! I know it can incorporate all those features depending on the one you get. If you want to install yourself, check out: ebay store Car Audio Warehouse (mongoose here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-MONGOOSE-M60S-CAR-ALARM-INSURANCE-APPR-3YR-WARR_W0QQitemZ300052968964QQihZ020QQcategoryZ31250 QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem)) for prices.
Good luck! It's a great investment. I just wish I had an alarm with the little key ring that tells you if your alarm has gone off. When I looked into adding that feature, with Mongoose, they were quite big and not very advanced. I think Viper has got little tiny funky key-rings that tell you this stuff (eg. what door is open etc.).
