Hey guys,

Well after 5 years I am finally moving back to Adelaide and bringing my exa with me.

The reason for this post is to get some sort of idea of what is legal in SA. All states have various road rules and I am afraid I am a little rusty when it comes to the laws in SA.

I here cops are pretty anal in Adelaide. I have just completed a turbo conversion on my car. Along with this it has 17's, lowered. Whilst I have instructed the exhaust guys to make it quite, I have a feeling it may become a target for the cops. Has it really become that bad in SA?

Also just wondering if anyone knows what needs to be done in terms of reporting the turbo conversion to the authorities. The car is already registered in SA, one of my friends told me that it needs to go through regency. The car has a microtech MT8.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject please.

Thanks guys, look forward to cruising with you when I come down (some time in February).

Cheers,

Damien.

Unfortunately mate, yeah the cops here are SHOCKING!!
I know...trust me:thumbsdow

17's...Get them engineered
Lowered...Make sure not lower than legal limit (Regency has the specs)
Yes...I'm pretty sure the car will have to go thru Regency. If thats the case...take everything off it, Mags and whatever else you've got and put all your stock stuff back on (if you've still got it)

Cops are pretty damn picky...I got defected for being 10mm lower than I'm allowed:mad:

Hope to see you soon on a crusie etc...

Steve

Generally cops only go for you here if you're driving in a way they'll go after you, or you have P Plates + mags (that combo always gets them)...

I reckon you'd be right, you've just gotta be careful, and to be fully legal, you need to have an engineer's certificate for the engine and mags...

Yeah P Plates and a good car is all you need to get the cops attention. My Brother kept getting picked up in his Commodore because it looks good and he has P Plates. His car has been defected 9 times (I think) 90% of the time he doesn't change a thing, goes to regency and it's back on the road. Because it is so highly mofified the cops make up stuff to defect him on because they have no idea. It sucks because he has to pay for it every time he goes. He got defected for being too low once and the car is actually slightly higher than stock (Way higher than legal limit).
They also tried to get him for have the wrong tyres on his car. (Not the wheels, the tyres).

But after all of that I have to say that I have never had any problems with them and I currently own a 1984 Turbo 300zx with a Blow Off Valve, big exhaust and 17 inch rims.
I'm just lucky I guess.

most ppl don't have engineers' certificates for mags though :P

with 16s you don't need it, but with 17s+ you do....

Thanks for all those who have inputted so far!

Does anyone know of someone who has done the conversion in SA. If you do could you please put them on to me. I just want to ask them some questions on what they did to the car on the road, legally ;)

My email is damien.mavroudis@santos.com, or just pm me. That would be great if anyone can help out. Having just shelled out for the whole conversion, i don't really want the extra hassels of cops on my arse.

Thanks to anyone who can help.
