View Full Version : NX’s may have just become even rarer - I got rear ended

It’s been raining all day in Adelaide and I was driving along Prospect road where the two lanes go into one, near the town hall. I pulled up at the lights and checked my mirror to make sure the person behind me had time to stop. I soon realised that they weren’t going to stop and managed to move forward a metre or two before the impact. The driver said he looked away for a second and it was then too late. Not sure if it will be written off - I guess I’ll have to wait until next week to find out.

aaarrrgggghhh....that will give me nightmares...
do you want them to write it off...or do want to keep it? I guess it depends on how much it was insured for...
Bad luck mate.

Sorry to hear, man! :(
I'd estimate your damage, just looking at it, at around $4500, which in most insurance companies' eyes shouldn't write it off... who are you insured with?

I think that'll be a writeoff..... plenty of panel crease right down the car... insurance would only be coering them for 7-8k these days..... it'll be a close call....
that totally sucks asss............

That's a hefty aamount of damage. How fast was the travelling when he hit you?
Don't think it'll be a write-off. Looks like $5k in damage at most.

I guess he was doing 60km before he braked but he just skidded on the wet road. He was driving a Toyota Camry Station Wagon (probably late 80's) but he had stuff all damage - probably good for him as he only had third party insurance. My neck wasn't sore until the next day - I'll be paying my physio a visit very shortly.
I have to wait until Monday to contact my insurance company (Allianz). I had it insured under my parents name for an agreed value of $15,500. I had about $2000 listed as extras on the policy so that would have bumped up the value I guess.
I ended up taking my car to an Allianz approved crash repairer on Saturday to save me the hassle of getting it there during the week. They said it that it probably wouldn't get written off as repairs should cost $10,000 max.
The quarter panels only have small dents near the tail lights which can be pulled easily and hopefully the chassis bars in the boot will only need straightening. The hatch is bent down near where the spoiler is and the left tail light should be ok.
If Allianz don't allow second hand parts to be used I could be with out my car for several months. The guy from the crash repairer said it took 10 weeks to get a front quarter panel from Japan for a NX they repaired last year.

Bad luck there man, it looks pretty bad too.
You might be able to get a rear cut and use everything from that, I had a front end smash and used a nose cut from Japan and swapped everything over. The only thing I needed was a bonnet, and Nissan had a brand new one spare in Melb. that I got.

Holy! Agreed value of $15,500?? That's heaps! Going from that point, there's no way it'd be a write off.
Why are you considering second hand parts? Is just for your convenience? See if you can get a cheque from Allianz for a quote on new parts and get it repaired yourself using parts from the wreckers. You should have a decent wad of cash left in your pocket.
Is a hire car included in your policy?
Edit: Just to add, I saw a local wrecker with front end damage (everything from the doors back was A-OK), which he sold for a few thousand $.

I just got quoted $6,540 for repairs from the crash repairer I took my car to. This was using new parts from Nissan. My Allianz policy states that I only get a loan car if my car is stolen.
The guy at the crash repair said that because my car is over 10 years old some insurance companies would accept the use of second hand parts provided they had a guarantee on them.

Yeah Allianz have been pretty good about it all - I'm not even on the policy as a named driver (they have an option where if your not named you are still covered but of course it costs more).
The repairer got all new parts from Nissan except the tailgate which they had to get from a wrecker. I was told it should be fixed by either this Thursday or Friday. I'm having a couple of other minor things done such as colour coding the grey plastic molding strip while it's at the repairer.

OUCH!
Are you paying for it by yourself i.e. not through insurance? Don't go for new parts. I'm pretty sure you can find all the required parts at the wreckers. Put up a new thread if you need to chase some parts and I'm sure we'll be more than happy to help you in your quest.
Looks like you only need a front bumper and headlight. Your bonnet and front quarter panel should be easily fixed.

Thanks Allie,
if I do end up driving up in Nov, we'll have to go for a cruise.
Any Newie members keen to go for a cruise in Nov? My folks live in Lake Mac and they are the main reason why I am going back, also to check out my best mates project for uni.
All the NXs that were sold through Nissan are the same chassis, only some specs (like CD player) changed through the years.
