you dont need one......you just need the power, shifting aint gonna change things drastically on the streets but a ca18det would :p

ok great but how would i go about getting one, i mean sentras aren't all that common(are they???) wreckers maybe? or what store?

sentra's are very common in canada or the usa, so I'd probably check out some american car performance companies because I went down to my local car performance shop and they can order me in one, not sure who makes the part, but I could find out next time I go their...

if ure just having a show car just use a hack saw and go hack
the fat piece is metal covered rubber so if u cut through that piece it reveals a straight thing piece of steel
its just there to dampen out vibration and stiffen the stick

its not solely a show car though its gonna get driven every day as it does now. with my current gear stick i cut bout an inch of that then used super glue to hold my gear knob on.... so do you think if i cut the plastic of and left it REAL short that would work with another re-glue???? also is it legal, like would i get defected for it????
sexa
9th January 2003, 08:17 PM
um well you said it was plastic (that chunky bit on the gear stick) hate to tell ya but its steel:( i just went to scratch it with a hack saw and i got sparks and its definatly steel!!! i could cut through it to make it shorter but no gear knob on the planet would fit to it cause the bit where i would cut would be way to fat:( so i guess its back to the drawing board unless you have any ideas on how to overcome the prob

u can buy a short shifter for a sentra and it WILL fit in the pulsar but only if u have the same engine as the sentra u are buying the shifter for. Since the sentra never came with a ca16de, ca18de, then the people with these engines will be SOL. only way of getting a short shifter would be to cut it. :moonsmili

:D Hey peoples, when i cut my gear stick my gear knob didnt fit on but there was no way i was goin to glue it on just incase i wanted to change it later.there is an alternative even if it does sound abit funny. You just cut abit of garden hose or any hose and feed it onto the stick. Then u twist the gear knob over it.Mine worked perfectly and has never even moved abit.So maybe if you r not a fan of the glue you could try this?:D

BTW, you are wrong about the shifters being different from pulsar to sentra. even the E16 uses the same shifter.
I have owned both cars with both motors and they are the same.

..im wondering for those who cut there shifters where about they cut them
cause my last stick that was cut was cut where the fat bit of shifter ended and because u couldnt simlpy stick ur shifter on that end cause it would be way to short u hav to re weld more stick on ... so im confussed on those people who just cut ...did use's only cut a little bit of so the fat bit of stick is still there?
i mean if u did that it wouldnt really be a short shift it would just be a stock size thats a tiny bit shorter?
sorry if i confussed people .but surely some 1 no's what im raving on about. ?
sexa

um yeah well i got told that the fat bit is only a thin layer of metal covering rubber so in theory if you cut just a little way down the fat bit or so then you could strip that bit off to leave you with more thin stick.... so basically what im saying is that apparently that fat bit is removeable and only there to stiffen the shaft and cushion it... so if you took the whole fat bit off youd be left with a thin stick the whole way down and its your choice on how low you go then

yea its a metal piece like a sleeve covering rubber that reinforces the stick u have to score the metal in a line down the shaft and open it up like a wound then chop to the decirfed length
ok not just a show car but let me ask u one thing
at the height ure planning and bloody heavy 18 inch rims as well
is it going to be very pratical at all?
vault wheels r very very heavy
i can see defect notices coming from every direction lol
excuse my ignorance but wat state r u from?
sexa
15th January 2003, 12:50 AM
hey dude im from canberra, how could i get defo for having 18inch vault rims???? and my rides gonna be legally low( the lowest part will be no lower than 10cm ) which is still low, so i couldnt possibly see where i could get a defect from, so fill me in

Hey,
its just cos over here - if you have rims that big and a ride lowered nice and low, it draws attention (yes, I know thats the aim) but it also draws the Police's attention and if they wanna give you a defect, the ywill search the car til lthey find something defectable... Kameleon is just looking out for you!

Sexa, im pretty sure ive heard of a short shift kit for the exa, but im not sure if it went into production... Some guy about 2 - 3 years ago was trying to organise people to go in for like a group deal or something.... I think he was asking for around $210 - $230 or something.... Will have a look 4 u, if i can access the really old board...
As for coppers defecting u 4 having 18s, they sure can.... BUT it depends on ur driving attitude... If u go and make a name 4 urself and hang out with all da boyz, and go and do burnouts and stuff, cops will begin to target u...
I have had 18s on my car for over a year now, and not once have i been defected,... I drive my car a fair bit, but i guess i know where to go and where not to go... and i dont go and make a dick of myself either....
good luck with the show car, but believe me driving a show car everyday will give u the royal shits quickly... E.g, if u have a lowered car on 18s, be prepared to feel EVERY bump on the road, and I mean EVERY bump! Also leather interiors, are susceptable to wear and tear, not to mention getting stained... Also stone chips and people opening their door on ur car will piss u off as well... Lowered exas pick up stone chips fairly easy, Since had my front resprayed, ive noticed a fair few small stone chips, that basically u cant do nothing about, its a fact of life....
cheers

yeah i know that having a good car will have its drawbacks, but hopefully the pros will by far outway the cons, im only doing my seats in leather and the rest willl all just be re sprayed, though im not sure what colour to re- spray my car, im thinking of the new ford blue(bright electric type blue) but now leaning towards a deep purple(metallic) so im doing my interior to match so either white and blue or white and purple... anyways give me some oppinions on what you guys will think will look better(colourwise) my plan is to make hot4's in 2 years so it'll be good for the club with the club stickers being displayed on both the front and back!!

i think nice and smooth makes a exa stand out whi55l's car is unique but also not overdone
it just looks very smooth
as for the interior i think a tan coulor would really offset both your colour choices
white with blue or purple would just look like a civic
o by the way if u think im hanging it on u or something about wat ive been replying to u im not just trying to give some advice
btw wat is going under the very important bonnet?
sexa
17th January 2003, 07:40 PM
yeah im going off the bright blue idea its to loud and boy racer, i think a deep purple, with a few pearls will be smoother, the seats will be white leather, and i dont think a white and purple interior will look to bad,
and under the hood will be a SR20det, i'll spend $2000 buying the engine then only spend a little bit more tweaking it.

hey sexa, not meaning to doubt you or insult u in anyway mate, i'd love my exa to be of show quality and be in hot 4's one day too, and i admire ur determination. however, all these things which u are wanting to do to ur exa are extremely expencive and time consuming. for 1 an sr20det will alone cost 8-9K after installation inc. engine management etc. decent 18 inch chromies cost between 2.5-4K, full (quality) resprays cost close to 4K and then on top of that u have to add a retrim and decent sterio... all this stuff is a hell of alot of cash and time. to do all of this in two years is a major ask, not to mention how long ur car will be off the road for (a great inconvience if it's ur daily driver) Maybe instead of saying this is whats gonna be in there and this is when its gonna be done by u should say this is what i would like in there and when i would like it done by. dont count ur chickens before they hatch.. and i dont know about u but when i tell someone i'm gonna do something i stick by it, maybe u shouldn't go talking it up now incase it never happens and people think less of u. please dont take that the wrongway i am just trying to advise u.
ok now that is out of the way, i think u should reconcider some of ur styling. i know its ur car and it doesnt matter what i think, if u like it then good, however i will give my opinion and hopefully it can be of some use. What may be cool or the current trend! at the moment definately wont be what is the trend in 2 years time when ur car will hopefully be finished. i say be a leader not a follower. use some of the things on all the other cars but also be an inovator. do outrageous things with ur cars styling, but make them tasteful. a white and purple interior might sound ok, but personally i'd look into some cream/offwhite leather just keepit taste full and not so in yor face! u'll spend most of the time in ur cars interior, make it comfy and something thats not screaming at u the whole time! make the exterior wild with come out there, custom paint maybe suicide doors (<--always been a dream for my exa just i've never had the funding) etc. some big filthy chromies are a good idea, however depending on the cops in ur area u will be defected! be ware! appart from that ur doin a great job and i think u have some really good intentions, hopefully soon enough we'll start seeing ur best turn into exactly what u want it! cheers mate, cya,
ET :bounce:

Thats it man, do what u want to make urself happy, not other people....
For what u wanna do, budget for at least 20k for a full rebuild to show standard...
sr20det: like Et said, it will cost u around 8-9k, which will include installation, front mout, polished piping, aftermarket ecu, brakes, engineering...
Respary: mine cost 5.5k, bare metal, black with purple pearl, which has about 6 different coloured specs through it....
Bodykit: 2k for an off the shelf kit which might incclude the spraying costs... Custom kit, anything up to and including 10-12k if u get someone else to design it and build it for u... Cyber for e.g will charge that price for a custom developed kit... Not to mention they will have ur car for 4-6 months while they do it...
Rims: 18s 2.5k - 5.5k depending on quality and brand
Interior: Full leather, 10k... Not cheap man, but thats a price for everything covered in leather (everything in the car will be covered) If u just want the seats, door trims and some of the center console covered, it will be around 2.5 - 3k for a good job.. U want switzer automobile leather so it will last as well...
So as u can see its not cheap, but if u want anything done to it, I can put u in touch with a few good places who will do excellent jobs....

I feel ur pain man, the paint on my Gp skirt cracked last night after the front bar touched a driveway,... Im not very impressed with the quality of the job they did to it all.. I will be giving them a mouthfull on Monday :mafia:
