when my N12 get smoky last time,i had been picked up by police for so many times that i get a yellow sticker and can't stand it anymore.
i went to cypher and asking them to do it in the most economic way, they say most smoke come from turbo,so i just get it rebuilded and highflowed, and they clean up the fuel injector, and after that, black smokes just gone.but still, when u boost without gear lots of white smoke come out.
at cypher they say second hand engines aren't always reliable,it is better to get it rebuild at some truesty workshop.but that takes about 2.5 grand for my E15ET.

What engine is in your car because i own a 1984 exa with a e15et that i just resently rebuilt by myself im 18 and have lived on a farm all my life and know my way around an engine i have reconed a n/a 1500 about 5 or 6 times and have had the engine right out of mine and have done the head gasket twice ps have you got a book on your car if so that makes a rebuild piss ( what exactly are you planing to do on the engine it cost me $1300 that included the head new pistons rebore the lot except the turbo that was fine on my car,
Get back to me on what you want to do and i will see if i can help chances are that i proberly could, depends ;)
pps how old are you and do you have any experience with mechanics and do you have a place to the the work on the car
nick

nick here
jason what manual do you have and for what engine is it for a ca18det if it is a workshop manual i can help both of you do the job it is fairly easy but im not sure what you mean by the gasket do you mean the head gasket it could be this if the seal around the oil feedhole in the block which goes to the camshaft has gone this will let oil in the cilinder next to this hole and hence it will blow blue smoke, (is it blue smoke that it is blowing:confused:)
It could also be that the rings have worn too much the best way to find out is to take the head of and go from there ps is your engine a DOHC
se ya
get back to me alright i dont want you getting ripped of by some f##king dodgy mechanic

Yeah jason has a mini garage, not enclosed, should do. I have the workshop manual with step by step guide to do it.
I think he wants a cheap rebulid so maybe just the gasket cause he is loosing compresion and his exhaust smokes a bit.
nick
24th March 2003, 07:14 PM
If the rings are worn the engine will have to come out and a new set put in which will mean it will proberly need a rebore and oversized pistons depends on the condition of the bore and pistons new ring mite do the trick lets hope it is nothing that serious but still if so he might have look at spening a bit more to get it back on the road but im willing to help cut the costs by giving a hand i know quite a bit and with a book it is easy ps what tools do you have a tenstion wrench is a must for the head
pps to change the gasket it will take a few hours i guess if that is all it is becaues i changed my e15et headgasket in a matter of hours 2.5 max and put a new cluch in in 2 hours

24th March 2003, 07:27 PM
how much do u guys charge, i need a cluth adjustment or replacement
nick
24th March 2003, 07:34 PM
Is your cluch slipping because there is not alot of adjusment on the plusar cluchers. Is yours a e15et and do you have any tools and a garage i put a new cluch and presure plate in mine recently down home it took me all of two hours with my cousin i have just moved up hear this year and don't have any tools post reply if need help i will see what i can do:)
xja888
24th March 2003, 07:50 PM
mine is a E15ET 85 EXa,should be the exactly same kind of car as yours. it is bitting the gear, even if i step fully into the clutch.and it is hard to switch the first 3 gear when it is below 2000rpm, when it is above 3000,it is easy. And everytime i switch it to reverse it's like greg~~~~ large noise as if i didn't step on the clutch.
i don't have a garage i don't have any tools either.just looking around for some economic treatment for it. Cypher told me it would cost aound 500 to fix.
nick
24th March 2003, 09:00 PM
Dose the cluch slip at all in any gear if not it could just be a worn presure plate that would not alow the cluch to disengage properly and cause the problems you are having
Also how much free play is there in the cluch from when you first push it and when you start to load up the pressure plate if there is alot the cable might be to loose and could be adjusted but it depends on how much free play there is. Do you have a mate or someware you can take the gearbox out like a free driveway if you get the parts it should take no more than a day . if it is the cluch which i think it is and you where to get someone to help you you would have to get some tools and something to drane the oil into
get back to me on what you want to do
ps when cyper told you that price did that include the cluch and maby pressure plate or was it just labour becaues i could do it for the price of tools if you had the pressure plate, cluch, oil, and new seals for the drive shafts which have to be replaced when you remove the shafts but then that could cost $500 anyway so you will have to find out the prices for the things i have listed and go from there
by the way im not a qulified mechanic but i do know what i an doing when it come to this sort of thing i have lived on a farm all my live and have done this multiple times

Heres the story for Jason!
His Oil pressure gauge is allways on 8...
He is loosing coolant tooo quickley, i think that may be from the hose at the back of the block (the "S" bend one) Not hard to replace!
And when he starts the car he gets white smoke from his Exhaust! which mine does also! And i have a feeling that this is not too much to worry about at this stage!
He has an '87 EXA so thats a CA16DE
Jason if you can get that gasket kit i would anyway! Thats pretty cheap! And even if you dont need them u could sell em for a little more than you paid anyway ;) ssshhhhh i wont tell anyone!
Ok now thinking the worst here... Hey may have done his rings, causing high oil pressure and white smoke... as the oil is being burnt at a low temp when he has just started! Now once then car gets going the oil lubes the rings and forms like a seal therefore he's not gettin blue smoke as by this time it's stopped leaking oil!
Although he has had a service done 2 weeks ago and the mech checked his plugs (dunno if we can trust him here tho) and he said that they were ok! So if he had done his seals they would have had oil deposits on em!

25th March 2003, 02:38 PM
Jason for $450 get the engine. It'll be less work and it will already have been reconditioned with rings and b/ends.
Tell me when you get it. I should have time to help in a week when assignments are gone.
shouldn't take more than a day or 2 to do.
jason_sheman
25th March 2003, 02:43 PM
the engine is not re-cond one..only 2 nd one with 15000km on it...
i will order it tomorrow morning if u guy agree with it.....
hopefully can be delivered next weeks

25th March 2003, 03:48 PM
If the guy claims it has 15,000 km on it. There is a big chance it was once reconditioned. As long as it works, plus it has 6 month warranty. Jason it is easyier to replace an engine with exactly the same one than change the gasket.
ORDER IT!
nick
25th March 2003, 08:18 PM
hey
yes get the engine with that 6 month waranty and i costing only $450 you can't go wrong ( i think, i say this so i cant get into any trouble)
Do you need a hand to install it i have had the engine out of mine it is a e15et and it is fairly easy to get them in and out(it is the same with yours i imagine) all you need if you take it out the top is some strong rope a couple of pulleys and somewhere strong enough to mount them then it is just a matter of lifting it out when i took mine out i took the gear box with it much easyer that way to do this you have to drain the gearbox of oil (you have to have something to put the oil in)
ps do you have any tools to do the job and when do you think you will get the engine becaues i have a few assingment due in the next few weeks so give me a date on when you think you will get the engine so i can go from there i hope i can help that is if i can get time fingers crossed, these f##king letuers are a pain in the arse to much work
Get back to me here asap
P.S What are you doing with the old engine i would like to know
jason_sheman
25th March 2003, 08:24 PM
i can get a ca16de with 60000km for $125 or $325 with turn over checked from a guy called KAMELEON from melbourne....
devilsexa suggested to go for $125 cos he said that guy is reliable...
any other suggestion???
i need ur help Nick cos i dont have any tools.......and experience
but still not sure when i can do it.depend on when i can get the motor......
nick
25th March 2003, 08:50 PM
hey
jason sorry to tell you this but i dont have any tools either, i just moved up here from albany and i can't afford any tools if you can get the tools or if oliver has tools i can help depending when of course (assingment wise) and when it comes to the 60000 km engine i don't know does it run good and does it have a warranty if so it is up to you and what you are willing to spend. If the guy is telling you the truth about the 15000 km engine and i goes good i would steer towards that because it is newer and the fact that it has a 6 month waranty
get back to me jas
ps what are you doing with the old engine
pps why is this guy selling the 15000km engine
jason_sheman
25th March 2003, 09:02 PM
the 15000km motor is from EKW wrecker from eastern state...
for the old engine....just parting it and get the useful staff....
again, give me suggestion: $125 or $450

Nick mate... do i know you?
Do you know anyone down here with N13's?
There are two that live in Oyster Harbour near me!
I think Jason should go for that $125 one! And get it delivered to his house! Is it possible to hire out an engine hoist?
By the time he gets the engine i dont think that i will still be in Oz! But it's worth helping him!
Make sure you have a torque wrench and a workshop manual!
also please guys make sure Jason replaces ALL of his hoses and put some good hose clamps on! And try to get them on in such a way that they will be easy enough to undo from the top if he ever needs to! Make sure they are done up firmly!
Get a multi metre, pressure tester, timing gun and other needed tools and make sure you go through EVERYTHING BEFORE you even crank the engine!
New spark plugs would be in order too! Clean all sensor connectors and anything else you can think of!

thanks a lot Nick, but since i get no tools no garage anything,i would just leave it for now,as far as it is still running and get it fixed when it can't be drive.
But it become like this after a crash one years ago,it had been done somewhere whelshpool, but that guy adjusted it twice but it's still not really smooth. there aren't very much free space when u step into it,and i did check the cable,it is not lose, and when u just step on it a little bit without gear u can feel it is shaking, like biting the engine side, but most strange is that, sometime it is so smooth that u forget that u have this problem, other time it is damn hard to switch.
And just wondering if u guys study at curtin. Any curtin student here, cos i have seen a lot of EXAs around curtin.

jason
If you had or could get the tools i could help you but if not then that price that cyper told you that included sevice new hoses and tuning ect is a good price i think because hoses are expensive and to is tuning it cost me 470 dollars just to get my carr tuned the other day
ce ya
ps get back to me about the tools so then i know what you are doing if you can't get tools ( to expensive ) then i think go cyper what do you think devil
pps Devil i have seen some n13's floting around but i don't think i know who drives them
