Okay, i don't want to get ahead of myself, but i thought id let you guys know about mah plans.
Took my CA18DET out for a rebuild, and found the bores were out of shape. Probably due to the fact it had been pinging like a MF due to a stuffed exhaust cam(CAS tang).
Any way a new set of oversized pistons for a CA18DET cost 800 with rings! Fuck that.
Therefore we investigated the possiblity of usiong cheaper, australian issue pistons. RB30 pistons were close, but too big so we gave up. Then i thought about the CA20E pistons. Amazingly they'll work. So i bought a CA20 bottom end took it apart took the crank out of it and bought a set of pistons.
Now the only problems that lie ahead are, new fly wheel needed, cause mine is 8 bolt and the crank is 6. This won't be hard to get but will it fit my clutch? And will the crank fit in my block? I will know on wednesday if the crank fits, then i have to find a flywheel.
But all in all i'm optimistic and think it should work. Its abit of work but definetly worth it. The pros of the CA with the displacment of an SR, the ultimate exa engine i feel!

the ca20e crank will not fit, it has to be machined. However there is a ca20det in existence, actually a ca20dett. I think the website that has it called drift division. one of Glen Lumpys experiments.

yeah obzai and lumpy did this in perth

but with VG30 pistons and correct machining it came out to 2.2L!

the crank was heavily machined yes

email lumpy to find out, or visit speedworks in perth and ask obzai
I haven't spoken to him for yonks, so i don't know the projects progress

Hey,
$800 with rings??? What kind of pistons were these. I can buy e15et ACL Duralite pistons with Chrome rings for $250 a set (brand spanking shinny new) These pistons are good too!
