Okay, I know this has been discussed a fair bit, but I want to increase power on my CA18, heres the sotry and plans.

I've tore apart my sump after hitting a rock and am thinking worse case scenario, a rebuild. Now while this is happening I am planning to get the head mildly ported.

What other mods would you recommend. There is no REAL budget, but I don't want to spend too much, this is a daily driver after all.

I am thinking the only other things I can really do is:

Cams(CA16 perhaps, any aftermarket items cheaper than HKS, etc?)
Z32 Airflow meter
Extractors, high flow cat

Is the standard ECU reprogrammable, or would you recommended it getting chipped with a piggyback type item.

Any other reccomendations along those lines?

going faster/gaining power is a question of money... how far can you afford to go? there are lots of things you can do to your engine to squeeze every kw out of it, but is it in your budget?? here are some suggestions :
Port & Polish the head
Increase Compression
Increase the Bore diameter
Increase the stroke
Z32 MAF sensor & reprogram ECU
Replace the ECU with an aftermarket system and throw AFM in the bin!
replace cams with aftermarket items with high lift, longer duration and wider overlap
Double Valve springs & solid lifters
replace conrods & strengthen crank to push redline out to 9000
Flat top pistons
Quad Throttle bodies
Tuned-Length Extractors & matched exhaust
Nos??
Larger Injectors
All of the above!

if you do everything there your car will be a monster! there are some things for you to think about

Well all i can say is a dude in perth i know had an exa that was na and could run the pants off a stock STI WRX. He doesn't know what the mods where as it was bought like this, then written off.

efi hardware have manifolds to adapt quads to ca series motors as well as sr20's
i wouldnt mind having a go adapting some toyota quads to my motor
only about 400$ for the whole intake side!
now thats cheap
o if someone needs a ca18det i know of one minus exhaust manifolding cas and coils
is the throttle body that doesnt go over the engine type
just requirse a re ring etc
$400

I think Tomei might make a quad throttle body manifold for the CA18, but other than that you won't find any easily/commercially. I was offered a set for $1800 + my intake manifold to work with (and I told em where to stick their 1800 bucks).

Its pretty likely I'll be doing this when I can afford to (mix of custom/commercial parts), but you could try contacting intake manifold fabricators, or model your own set out of a pair of Dellorto carby's. This one has been done before ;)
