I'm in the process of getting prices for a full exaust system for my baby. While I was on the phone to one mob the guy informed me that maybe mandral bends where maybe not the way to go as they tent to be only good for 2 to 3 years as they are thiner than press bent.

So does anyone know if this is true? Because this has put a spanner in the works as I was going to go mandral bends. :(

Hey,
mandrel lasts heaps long... I bought a 4 year old exhaust 2 years ago(mandrell).... Its showing signs of age - but still going strong!

mandrel bent is optimum to use for turbos right, wont it be overkill for an NA?

hey,

Mandrel should be fine on ur system, on turbo or not its the same principal, straighter is better... just sometimes too big on a NA car is bad, but u can't get too straight.

i have talked to A LOT of exhaust guys over the past years and no one has EVER recomended press-bends over mandrel. one of these ppl being mark from exhaust technology, one of the most respected exhaust guys in the country...

Hope this helps.

if you are worried about how long mandrel bends will last, get stainless steel. they will out-last your car!

on a stock NA car, mandrel bends won't really make any difference.
my car has a press bent 2.25 exaust and it's got plenty enough flow for my engine.
mods are larger valves, port/polish/valve grind. and lot's of timing advance.

press bent is cheaper and usually has less welds
that's all i'm trying to say
