sorry mate...if only exa's were as versatile as rx7s...from what i recall that was one of the few cars that could be directly turbod without mods on the factory engine...go the whole engine conversion, the CA18DET, its the only sane thing to do...

What must be done to the engine to allow it to take the turbo?

Would the ca18det exhaust manifold fit the ca18de? What else is different the intake is the same yeah?

change your pistons to lower the compression. Run oil hoses to turbo. That's it really. You still wouldnt be able to run much boost. Your rods would break. As a matter a fact you should be able to turbo a ca18de without internal mods. Its just dangerous. You have to have a intercooler and wouldnt be able run much boost 6psi max if even that much.

yeah but if I got stronger rods. Would I be able to go higher?

Okay, from what i've heard and done, some well made NA pistons and rods can handle turboing. Chris Luu's 12's N12 ET runs 20psi of boost on NA pistons. I'm using CA20 pistons on my car and hoping run alot of boost. Its a risk but sometimes the pistons can hold out if u know what you are doing. Custom engine managment would really be a must. Fundamentally all block are the same, strength wise in the CA's. SO the block itself will be fine. The crank in a CA16, never seen one so i don't know if its strong. Pistons and rods can be chopped and changed, try find a combination that will fit from the CA range. The top end, you should just get a ca18det head. Shouldn't be too $$$? Turbo injectors obviously. Its probably is possible witht the same work as a major rebuild, but really the same price as droppin an new engine but then again you'll need a new box. But if you do it you'll have a really new engine internally i.e. rebuilding it for a turbo.
