I'm making up a parcel shelf for my car in the next week or so I just need a little info on speakers and subs and stuff before I start drawing up the plans (needs to be stronger and different shape if I decide sub).

I don't really care about having a fully sic sound system, but I do like my music loud and currently have blown 3 of my 4 stock speakers.

I'm uming and ahing about getting a sub or just better speakers but really know shit all about both to be honest.

Do I need a sub? Do I need to spend heaps of money to have my music loud without blowing the speakers? Can anyone suggest speakers/subs/setups that will work? Sub vs speakers?

Thanks

Jessie

no you don't need a sub. but if you like the BOOM BOOM then you can think about getting one. 10" will do the job.

in my own opinion i wouldn't spend any less than $200 on a pair of speakers if you want them to go loud.

a small 4 channel amp will help dramatically in loudness of the speakers as well as taking out the "crackle".

if you plan to get a sub and have 4 speakers then buy a 5 channel amp. this will be the best way to go.

go to www.hifidirect.com.au and look at the Blaupunkt range of amps and speakers. i have the Blaupunkt Velocity 170.2 splits which i picked up locally in town for $249 and these rec retail for $350... so you know. the shop still has 1 or 2 pairs left if you want me to get u a pair.

but hifidirect has these.

hope this helps.

if you have a set budget, let me know and i'll make u up a system.

Jessie, if you're not sure if you want subs or not, just have a sit in a car with a nice system with subs.. it'll help you make up your mind :) It all depends on personal preferences though. With the rear parcel shelf, you gotta be really careful and make sure it's secured to your car REALLY well... why? : in a high impact car crash, a tissue box can cause similar damage as a brick... so you can must imagine what speakers would do.

I've posted this before

If you make a parcel shelf think about how much weight is going to be on that shelf 10, 15kg plus the weight of the mdf?
Fixing a parcel shelf into a hatch will get you defected. Because you are fixing the shelf to plastic not metal, if you stop fast , you run the risk of having you subs fly forward and hitting someone.
I've seen this happen it dont look prity trust me. I'll try and find some pics, most of the people have died, and the car hasnt even hit any one else
This also aplys if you are putting 6x9's on the shelf the weight alone from the mdf will rip it out.

You ask what about factory parcel shelfs, they get away with it because the speakers are not on the shelf there normaly to the sides of the shelf, and its made out of plastic stuff, and also when the hatch lide is down it stops it from being lifted up from the back.

Well any way sorry ET to burst you bubble, but if the police see it and if they know what they are doing they might just ask for $180 and two points.

This is from another post so some fo it might not flow on to what you have asked
