has anyone done this if so what is the costs and i was told that it is a defect if done.

This is off anouther forum (all you gotta do is buy a turbo, make a custom manifold. i think you can run your standard ECU, but on minimal boost... apparently they run rich on fuel. you can leave the standard fuel rail. if your thinking of running more boost you can buy the DET injectors... This is pretty simple and relativley cheap.)

u'd have to check u'r compression first, i think the sr20de in the nx runs fairly high compretion and if u started boosting it u wouldn't be able to run much before it started to detonate, it is possible but i think u'd get better results from just swaping u'r de for a det.

Agreed, you have to lower the comp. before you can do it. It ends up being cheaper in the long run to do a conversion than turbo the de. People have done it before, but not as many as conversions.

this is not my opinion, but a few mechanics i've talked to really don't recommend this to be done as most non-turbo'd engines just aren't made for it. but hey, if you want to do it....do it! just be prepared for problems in the furture. for exmape, i was talking to a guy with a mirage with stock internals, and he had just fitted a t28. within weeks it was fucked. so apart from altering the compression, you should probably beef-up the internals first, especially the pistons and rings. good luck!!

Ok, now I am going to add my two cents. Garlo, the above people are giving you bad info..... so hears the real story from someone in the performance industry who has actually done both things you want to do.
Firstly, YES! you can turbo your n/a motor safely! **BUT** you must use the turbo computer, injectors and air flow meter!! AND upgrade your fuel pump!! If you do this and only run 6-8psi (tuned properly) the vehicle will be a reliable missile with awesome throttle response!! The throttle response is brought on by the high compression. I have a mate in my club that runs this exact setup in a datsun 1600 sedan - on 9psi the vehicle runs 13.5 @104 mph on street tyres! He turbo'd the n/a motor over 40000 klms ago and it is still mint!
In my own case - I have done a full conversion. More expensive, but more modification potential for the future. I used a GTiR SR20DET and bolted it in to my NX. This combination got me a 14.0 @ 104mph and a whoping 213ph at the whels on 15psi!! stock exhaust!

If you just want a bit of extra power - find yourself the right bolt ons (turbo/manifold, injectors, comp & afm) and bolt them on. You wont be disappointed and if tuned correctly, WILL be reliable. If you want upgrades in the future and want to run big boost.... do a full conversion and get ready to smash up some gearboxes! ;)

thanks for the info everyone, sir nx, just a question on a engine swap to a det, how much on average dose a det cost, and, from looking round other then the gtir engine what other det engines can go in, like a friend done a conversion on his Gazelle (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/589749) from a half cut,
i have been told that a rear wheel engine wont work, i seen other coversations on other forums saying a U13 Bluebird engine det can go it
i have been looking at sites that sell stuff like new engines n stuff such as www.japimports.com.au , and it is very confuseing to me

go to www.pulsar.org.au and do a search....there is more info there than you would ever need

I bought my det from a company called venusauto They have a web site venusauto.com They import a wide range of engines, alot of sr20 enignes mostly.
When i was looking at my options i had liited money, so finding a cheap reliable source was key. They hooked me up. they sell the cheapest blue bird engines on the market. They dont come as clean as the other places but with some cans of engine bright you can save your self a quick thousand dollars. when you buy the engine they will send you everything you will need for free, Maf, ecu, O2 sensor, and anything else you want theyll send. The U12 bluebird comes with a top mount intercooler, the U13 bluebird doesnt because factory engines have front mount intercoolers. They may sell the intercooler too but im mot sure, the only thing differant in the engines, is the U13 is a little new so its a little better tuned. but nothing internal has been changed.

hey SIR NX that's some great info in the bolt on turbo option, just a question, what sort of turbo did u'r mate use was it a T25? i might look into that option defenatly cheaper than the det swap.

You could find more info on turboing non-turbo SR20 in NissanForums.com (http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=4361)

im with sir nx on this one.
my mate did the same thing to his suzuki swift.
custom manifold, cant remember what turbo but it was tiny and was running 4-5psi no problems.
hes had it for 2 years without problems.
u gotta modify ur sump to add a hose from it to the turbo.

Same kinda story from nissansilva.com - the result was a turbocharged SR20DE with around 160kw @ 8psi.... he was still happily running it without any problems after 6 months, usually at 4-6psi.

hi there i've done this to my little one, ended up going a t25g u13 ooler mictotech ltx8 ecu.
basicaly the de block will handle the power. you will need to drill and tap the block to oil returen from trubo, there is already a boss manufactured for this standard just need to drill and tap it. oil feed will come from your oil pressure sensor. water cool will come and return to the throtle body warmer. manifold you'll get off a bb with turbo and injectors. may have all you'll need to do this to your can in the next couple weeks, ie cooler turbo maniflod injectors may even had a ecu, not sure yet, and taps to drill your block. adn oil and water lines for the turbo.

chuck a turbo on... when the motor gets too worn rebuild it with stronger internals, oooh yeah

you would need to alter comp before you put a turbo on, but you can do that with only a copper headgasket I've heard. Not sure how much change you can get from the headgasket

Yes you can. Safely. There are guys here in the USA running 400+ HP on the stock bottom end with a log manifold and T3/T4OE. Water injection helps keep cylinder head temps down to run more boost too. Front mount etc. Go to the www.sr20deforum.com
There is tons of Turbo info there. The www.pulsar.org.au forum is great source too.
I can give you a direct link on the USA forum. Give me a few hours.

Basically you have to tap the block for an oil return, get a T tap for the oil pick up, get a used T25 BB turbo manifold and turbo, configure some water lines, upgrade your fuel pump and injectors to at least 370cc (300ZX) and get a Jim Wolf Technology ECU. Thats it, easy as pie on low boost. Oh, do not forget an intercooler.
Check out this intercooler kit, it can be had for $800 USD.

Thats an entire kit minus the turbo and manifold. They also sell a complete bolt on kit, but I think a BB manifold and T25 with their intercooler kit is a cheaper deal.
