does anybody know anything about this? This is used for reprogramming your ecu.

If you need to reprogram your ECU for turbo duty, I would suggest to get it done by JWT since your in the US.

an EPROM writer is designed to re program EPROMs strangle enough. It can be used to re write the EPROM in your ECU they are also used for the BIOS in a computer etc.

So would you recommend me buying one. It only cost 95 US and 12 S/H from aus. Jim Wolf is expensive. Oh and also do you think I can use it to reprogram a ca18de ecu to use on a ca18det motor(So I could just use a pulsar wiring Harness instead of a silvia or bluebird wiring harness).

Well the thing is you have to know what your doing and you will need to find a ROM map that will do what you want.
I would not attempt it unless your 100% sure what your doing and that the new program will not break anything.

You cant reprogram your own ECU, get it done from a reputable shop like JWT. Oh and if you need a reprogrammed ECU by JWT pm boost_boy, he might have some spare ones for his CA18DET.

yes u can reprogram it yourself if you are confident and have a spare just incase!
Coz once tampered with there is no return! If u dont complete what u are doing u will erase it!
You might even get yourself some business if you are successful!
;)
Goodluck!

we got this thing at work called a hi-scan that we plug into the cars ecu to check/test/diagnosis problems and stuff. you can even code imbolisors from it! its pretty good you just need a like little disk with the car info on it and you can pretty much code anything to the ecu. just a matter of having the disk and a connector for the plug

I just paid for it. It also comes with a revised mines map for a ca18det and complete instructions, it cant be that bad. Thanks alot fellas

good luck mate!
Hey it might be a good idea to invest in a couple of ECUs from tha wreckers!
Then you can play around and try different stuff!
Maybe even do what i've allways wanted to do... have the ECU loaded onto a laptop computer!!! hehe *dreamz*

drudedon, i will be playing around with this in a month or two possibly. I've a fair bit of info regarding the CA18 chip, just one of those things I have to 'get around to'. Along with finding a job again :(

My dad made an eprom/eeprom burner cos he builds robotic & radio-controlled aircraft. Could I use this to re-map my ecu?? Can you download new code for the chip off the net? Is it reliable??

it will be once drudedon figures it out and knows what he's doing ;-) then he cans make us all one for our own needs :D

I'm also interested in programming a DE ecu. However, I believe it's been tried and failed:
http://www.nissanexa.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=749
The main problem is the address file for the DE ecu. Apprently the S13 DET address file floating around on the net doesn't work on the DE ecu.
If anyone has a valid DE address file, I'm more than willing to try it out. But without the valid address file not much can be done except for JWT ($$$).

interesting makes me a little scared now. lol:eek: I got faith. maybe I wont reprogram the de but definately the det. Unless I can find maps for it.

you don't actually need to reprogram the eprom chip in your ECU.
depending on how handy you are with a soldering iron and solder sucker you can get the eprom out and solder in a socket instead of the chip.
then it's simply a matter of getting a heap of chips downloading the map off the original and "fiddling"
I read a bit about this in one of the magazines here:bounce:
That is how most shops do it so they can simply replace the chip whenever you do an upgrade and remap, rather than resoldering the new chip in.
but that said I don't know how your reprogrammer works.

If anyone wants to skip the programming part and buy my two JWT units for cheaper than what they charge let me know. One is programmed for 550CC injectors and the other is for standard injectors. They both use the 92-94 Nissan maxima AFM and they performed wickedly for me. I went to a standalone because I needed the flexibility of tuning and changing parameters when I wanted to and it was time for me to graduate to more sophisticated equipment anyway.

Hey,
I agree that if your looking at a long term buildup, a standalone unit is a much better choice. But if you know the limit that you want to take your car to - then a reprogrammed ecu can be much more cost effective. And this JWT joint has an awesome rep...
