hey guys.. just a quick question... since i have put a front mount on my car the temp has risen due to the fmic blocking air to the radiator cause of this i have now put the fans on a manual switch but im not real keen on driving it all the time with the fans on constantly.. do other turbo nx's have the same problem? if so how do you overcome this?
cheers

Alot of the turbo guys in the states complain of the excess heat of FMIC'd eggs, which is one of the reasons they opt for the VE.
Maybe try some sort of vents on the bonnet, or cutting small vents in either side of your front bar. Other than that I'd have no idea.

one of my friends told me that i should put a little metal lip underneth the frontbar so when the air is coming through it will hit the lip and deflect up to the radiator .. you guys reckon this would work?

i dont really think there is much u will be able to do other than cooling fans...
if it gets hot.. ull just have to do what my mate used to do and boost up for bout 30secs to a min, used to cool hius right down....
or maybe like cold air induction setup for the radiator.. like get some pip and run it from the sides of the bar to the radiator..

It is a problem with a lot of SE-R's too. You should upgrade your radiator. Seeif you can get a aluminum modine or Koyo radiator.
A hoodscoop and hood vents can help a lot. SickNX, do a search on the SR20 forum. It is a common problem.

haha. that turbos for ya.
I have the same prob, expecially last sun, which was real hot.
I didnt have any trouble this weekend though. If i see it start climing i put the heater on, and watch the temps drop hehe.
I think that lip you saw might have some merit, tho i dont think it will be the ultimate answer. Hot days will shovel all the hot air off the road, but hot air is better than none i guess.
I think the answer will be bonnet vents. Ive been dreading this summer :hairgrow:

ive got a tripple core in mine and the thing never gets clise to 1/4, if you dont have ac replace ur stock raidator fans with 2 10" craig davis (think thats right) thurmo fans, just done it and you will never have heat issues again

how much are craig davis fans? and where can i get em from?

i know davies fans would definetly help. Tho we would have to get ones that lie fairly flat, room is bit of a issue down there lol.
Thicker radiators would reduce room too i spose.
Steve, forgot to mention, i also flicked my bonnet up at the rear a little like drift style pmsl. Not sure if it makes a lot of difference, but you can see hot air escaping there sometimes.... Might be worth a try??

my bro has his 2 thermo fans wired on constantly wiht this s13 silvia.... the rb25 in it gets warm quickly....like in ur situation the frount mount is blocking the radiator.....
so wot we ende dup doing was getting a tripple core (slightly thicker) radiator and wiring the 2 thermos on all the time.....
it has never gone past 1/3 on the temp guage

I had a similar problem but then replaced radiator with an aliminium one, 2 aftermarket fans one on a switch and a cooler thermostat with out leaving my 1st thermo fan on she still runs comfortably at half, however if thermo fan left on the water temp reduces to somewhere b/w 1/4 and a 1/2 depending on weather conditions. engine water temps recorded at 84 and 90o. I have been running with my thermo constantly on now for a couple of months and have no ill effects as yet and water temp hovers around 86-88o.
The exa has a plastic cover underneath the cross member which helps in keeping the air from escaping elsewhere. Also I'd check exactly what temp 3/4 is for the engine as it may not be as bad as you think. Good luck with it all ;)
