Pedals ARE a defect in australiacause there are some real dumb mother fuckers. This guy got pedals for his auto commonwhore and fitted em cept this fool had them overlapping cause the pedals where to close together (Some cars have em closer together and these new pedals are bigger than originals) So he was driving along and suddenly had to break and pushed down on the pedal which overlapped his accelerater and his car flew forward and there was an accident so now we have to live with it.

damn that sux!!!
now if that guy had read a post somewheres on how to install shifter pedals...
you guys would not be in that mess-hehe
sorry to hear.
T
mind you, i guess there is nothing stopping coffee cups from rolling under the pedals...or your floor matts bunching up and stopping the pedals...etc...
you get the point...there are so many variables that something or someone has to get blamed, right?

fact :
bunched up mats cause shit brake performance!!!
this happened to my shri lankin engineer when he was taking his now wife and her parents for a drive (1st drive)!!!
highly embarassing

i got a better one than bunched up floor mats!!! i was happily driving along one day when my entire security system (wires, big black boxes tape and all kindsa shit) decided to fall from the position it had been stuck in by the previous owner, the position it sits in is behind the pedals and tucked up under the dash, so when it fell it stuck behing my accelerator and brake so here i was sittin on a busy road at the lights trying to untangle all this crap and get it out from under my feet........ wasnt happy hehehe and neither was the truckie behind me

pod filters are illegal in nsw due to the excessive induction noise they create, and they also require the removal of the airbox which contains emission piping.
so u can get one and run the risk, or just get a nice insert which will do the same job.
remember, NA engine can only suck a certain amount of air, and the standard airbox will provide more then enough.

hey dude...
Any mods to your engine without an engineers certificate is illegal!
But i;ve heard if you build a box which separates the filter from the engine bay, it can be counted as legal.
Its really confusing...

I'm with EXR8D completely on this one, tho i disagree about the airbox, I believe it does provide a slight restriction unless you modify it (in which case I agree it has more potential than simply 'throwing on a pod'.)
Garry, I think there's a bit more to it than that. As far as I understand - any modification that will affect the handling, stopping or turning ability of the car needs to be engineered. As well has anything which affects the emissions of the engine, which includes any bit of major engine modification. ie. you don't see people getting defected for a slightly upgraded exhaust or muffler unless it is for being too loud.
As for the pedal thing.... mine is worse. Driving a 2001 Astra and someone in a VL commodore hesitated then decided she wanted to stop almost completely before turning into the street she'd almost driven past. I hit the brakes, but ABS only just kicked in before I kissed her bumper... couldn't understand why until I found the FACTORY pedal cover had not been put on correctly, and had slipped off when I hit the pedal in a hurry :( Most unhappy at Holden/Opel for that one :thumbsdow

In Brisbane the rules as far as i know r that pedals are fine as long as they are 80% rubber, mods like intercooler and exhaust don't need engineering plates. Mods like drivetrain upgrades are fine, no plates required (like box and clutch). Internal engine mods are pretty much undectable by most cams, unless you have high lift cams and your CA18DET sounds like a rotary. I think technically though internal mods need plates cause the generally entail displacment increase. Airfilters ar generally fine to change just make sure that you're emission controls are still attached. engine swaps difently need plates. Finally stuff like computers and chips aren't illegal at all. Realistacally i thing the main defects come from too big a wheels, neons, stereos, emission contro or lack there of and lowering.

yea pods in qld are ilegal for the same reason as nsw.. undue noise?
and pedals are ilegal unless they have rubber on it so u get a proper grip on the pedal...

yeah i dont get why big wheels matter for defo???? im getting 18"rims and apparently i have to have a engineers certif:( anyways fucked if im spending $400 on getting one, defect will cost less

u guys should see some of the laws here in WA. was lookin the other day to see how legal flares are... chances are i need a permit! ie. an engineerin certificate to prove its safety... i was lookin through... this is one... u r allowedto modify an exhaust system without a permit... but the new exhaust system cant exceed the loudness of the factory exhaust... or it will not pass... geez... man they oughta defect every frickin jap car.. coz about all of them have loud exhausts! yeah.... enuff of me whingin... lol
all i can say u put em on ur liable at the end.... and ummm... defect can vary dependin on the severity of defection... as i kno sumone got busted for havin fluro's mounted under the car and cost him k's to get it re licenced... ummm... $300 on fluro's or run the risk and get a massive fine... and have to get rid of the fluros... up to u....

I don't get it. I have BLITZ pod filter and in howies article he mentioned you could hear the induction noise from inside the car. I can't. I opened the hood and reved it and put my ear to it and i could hear it until the exhaust noise exceeded it. So like can ppl outside my car hear it???

if u want a loud roaring induction noise, buy a honda, they are the only cars that seem to make that noise, sounds awsome. specially with VTEC!
but otherwise, no, u wont get the loud induction noise.

exr8d...
i have to dissagree with you there...
that is the induction noise part...
after 5k rpms on my ride(hehe-which doesnt exist any more-hehe)the air pod that i put on was equal with the exhaust...i would drive all around my area and hit every underpass/tunnel just to listen to the noise that came out of that thing-hehe
if you guys want more noise...cut out a spot above the intake pod and put a scoop or something there.
i had a pacesetter/monza cat back system that was rumbly in the low revs and raspy in the highs and the intake was matched perfect for noise...sounded awesome as it was like i was sitting in the middle of my motor-hehe
no offence exr8d...as yes hondas do produce the most induction noise i have ever heard!!!

Hmm.. thinking of getting some EVO lancer bonnet cuts or like the supra from F&F had. Who does this? Like bodykit shops? And also doesn't water get in through vents/scoop that can stuff shit up specially if its over the airbox.

Pedals...
I think it is illegal to put one in, because i don't know bout somewhere else, but here in WA sport type pedals are sold with a "For off-road use only" sticker on it. So therefore if cops find it in our car it will b a defects. F**ken sux doesn't it! :3finger:

the scoop i had on my hood was right above the air pod...it actually made a difference, as it sucked low density air off the hood.
as for water...i think the air pod would get wet but not enough to actually harm the motor as in order to do dammage you would have to litterally submerg the intake in water to hydro lock the motor...
i have heard some other babble about the moisture goes in and breaks down the bearings blah blah blah but i dont know of any factory system that still wouldnt pull moisture out of the air and throught the intake.
as for that theory...i think it is crap...
i believe any moisture that is brought in through the intake will have been heated up enough by the intake plenums temperature to evapourate it...hense when people say they have a cold air intake...to acually have a cold air intake you would have to liquid cool the intake plenum to keep the motor temp down when the air passes through it...that is why when you do a cut out on the hood it a low density air in take...you have a pipe to it...then it's a ram air intake...
aaaahhh crap...i am babbling again-hehe
fehr...if your worried about your filter getting wet...put a bag over it when not in use!
T
i never even did that...even after i did the lift off and the hole was right over my filter...i had a hole/scoop over my pod for about three years with no problems.

yeh air filters r ilegal...
my brother had a swift GTi n he got pulled over n defected for several things n one was his air filter...
on his defect paper it had "air filter not boxed"
so im guessin any type of filter not boxed is illegal...
i put a air filter on my exa (K&N) and at first i couldnt hear nuffin at all...
then some1 told me it takes a couple of weeks to wear in n now
u can hear the grunt at bout 5 grand...
n u can hear it suckin when ur sittin at high revs in especcially 3rd gear...
n also racing pedals r also illegal cause supposble ur feet slip off the metal or someshit which i think is bullshit...
also when my brother got defected they got him for his monster taco n i got a nice spitfire one i wanna install but i dont wanna
atrract attention...
the reason for that is because its in ur crash zone which is even
more bullshit...

It sucks to be in Adelaide, when it comes to defect!!!
Even if its legal, you sometimes (50%) get defected for it anyway. Here, pod filters are very confusing. Some people get defected for them, others dont. A mate of mine got defected for his...I got pulled over and the cop just looked at my engine and didnt bother with anything. Howie went through Regency (Vehicle Inspection) with his pod filter on and they passed him haha so its kinda confusing.
The same goes for pedals and steering wheels. Pedals, to be legal MUST have rubber on them, so you get a decent grip in dry/wet weather (wet shoes) but you can still get defected for them:moonsmili
Steering wheels, here the only ones "legal" are MOMO's. But I know of 2 ppl that havent been passed through Vehicle Inpsections with it on. Another rule with steering wheels, is that "apparantly" any sports wheel is fine as long as it is no less than an inch and a quarter smaller than the stock wheel and didnt have an air bag standard. Those 2 "laws" for steering wheels are a pain in the arse. Just like everything else. A mate got defected for having 15" rims on his N13 Pulsar/Astra (same car as mine) even though 15's are legal (stock wheel size, 13"). The cop said that he wasnt sure about the wheel sizes, so he copped a defect, amoung other "faults".
Its the biggest headfuck dealing with cops and defects here in Adelaide. If its got 4 wheels and moves (especially if its a p-plater or someone under 21 and looks remotely modded) it'll get pulled over and "looked" at:hitwall:

Tacho's are illegal coz they sit on the dash (even on the A-Pillar). Anything that sits on or above the dash is illegal. So....what about all these taxi's we see driving around???
Pod's in heat shields/airbox are still illegal unless its completely sealed, and even then they can still get you for it. The excuse they give you is, "We cant tell what filter is inside, so to be sure its legal....DEFECT!":hitwall:

i dont know what the cops are like over there in adelaine or whatever i guess thats australia? anyways thats funny they must be pretty sad to be that bad!..lol the cops over here are too lazy or tired from my opinion to care too much about a fucking air filter cone or pod or your exhaust being loud i mean the loudest i heard is dual exhaust on a freakin Camaro like 93 and up model u know the shark lookin type/ones but that bitch was so loud it scared me! i mean it sounds like a big ass dragon literally LOUD but on the other hand camaros have always been really loud easly... ;)

my pod filter sucks are in as soon as i turn the engine on u can hear it from inside the car and when u turn the car of u get about 2 seconds of induction noise that follows

Hey,
Finally stuff like computers and chips aren't illegal at all. Um, I thikn that a aftermarket ECU's arent legal. Hence the "For racing use only" printed on my microtech.... Mind you, with an engineers certificate and a passed EPA test - I dont suppose there is much they can do about it... Virtually any mod to your car in Victoria is defectabel unless yo ufollow very strict guidlines.
