:mafia: @ the moment this is want i want to do to my exa...
Im having a problem and i was wondering if anybody knew of a good auto electrician in the melbourne area who could help me with this problem. So im sure being a nissan exa club people here might be able to guide me.
The Problem: maybe --> Alternator, as that battery (which is reasonably new) keeps dien on me(it wont charge). unless there is a short somewhere else.. if so is there a way i can check to see if the alternator is charging ? A friend said that if turned my lights on whilst the engine was running point them at a wall (give it a rev) and see if the dim would tell me if the battery is charging...
baahhh humbug !!!
:madshake:

My first guess would be Altenator aswell... second guess would be the voltage regulator...

Is there a buildup of carbon on the battery terminals?? This could be blocking the circuit...
A while back my car wouldnt start i thought it was the immobiliser shorting so i pulled my dash and door panels (for the central locking) apart. Turned out it was the battery terminals which had corroded. New terminals fixed the problem. :D

Thanks for all your help guys, but:
Q:whats ya volt guage reading?..
A:12 being the average / or half way.. im getting 14 .. so yeah ..i was told that 14v was noermal by some guy in a servo.
Q:Is there a buildup of carbon on the battery terminals ?
A:no no carbon build up on the battery at all spick and span.
Can anybody suggest a good auto sparky ? affordable and reliable is what im after, cos i dont want a monster tinkering with my baby if any of you can relate....
Once again thanks alot.
me still at my exa :mafia: then when its fixed ready for a cruz

Try PMing Rhys, he recommended someone good to me lat year (though I managed to fix the problem myself and never went to him myself).
I knew one in Moorabbin who was brilliant, did all the V8 super cars and the like, but he had no idea when it came to the Exa. Took him four goes to not fix something that took me 10 minutes to diagnose and fix.
Rhys is probably the best person to speak to.

Hey,
get an ammeter to test if you have something draining the power of your battery... If there is nothing shorting - it would be fair to say its the alternator. they can be rebuilt or oyu could wack another unit on. Welcome to the long line of issues with Nissan Exa's! lol
