hey, wanted to know if u have to move the battery and overflow bottle when u relocate the AFM? How big should i go for the exhaust? Ive seen a few exas with a VL throttle body is this fairly straight forward to do? finally could some suggest some slighty bigger turbos and what i would need to do to make them fit if they dont bolt straight on and would i need an intercooler?
anything is much apprecaited

i have delayed intercooler for boost response, however we hooked up boostins airtemp sensor and he didnt go over 30 deg c
my t28 running 6.7psi pumps @ over 70 deg C (correct!)
and im fitting mine now...
dont waste your time with std ecu, microtech picked up 20% no other changes- fuel economy 540-560 kms too...

Hey,
Firstly - AFM is a bit of a bitch to fit but well worth the trouble and won't cost you next to nothin. The overflow bottle can be moved to where your air filter came from makin the hose length much shorter and less chance of a leak. The battery is a pain, boot is the best place for it but you will need a battery box but it will make it a lot easier to fit the AFM and filter in, the ideal position for the POD filter is just behind the right headlight. - Eventually you may want to invest in a microtech as chris said or similar aftermarket management system instead of the AFM.
The exhaust is up to your $$$, just make sure its mandrel bent, which most places will do standard anyway. The dump pipe you'll probably want 3" SS if you plan on keeping it for a few years. The rest of the system should be 2.5" or 3" with the t2 or t25 i would say a 2.5" would be very sufficient and then go nuts on the muffler, the choice is only limited by ya $$$.
For a nice article on AFM relocation and the VL throttle body and some more tech. articles check out www.n12turbo.com, the VL conversion is a good one and not very hard to do at all and you should notice the difference in throttle response as with the AFM relocation.
Turbo - A t25 from a CA18DET silvia is a popular cheap conversion, bolts on quite easily, when i bought mine i actually had a turbo from a 12a RX7 but that was not a simple bolt on and a piece of crap. But a T25 or T28 is a good turbo, Sam, who will no doubt come to my rescue and correct me on my mis-information given :p has a T04 that lou with his 12sec exa ran. But turbo is once again limited by $$$ a s/h T25 you could find a good one for $400-600 or a new T28 ball bearing from a S15 (my turbo :afro: ) cost me $1500.
yes an intercooler is a good idea, if running much more than 9psi, you can run more without one but its just plain comman sense to have one, front mount will do, a bit of playin around with the grill and fans and you can make most coolers fit, IC piping can be mild or stainless steel, cost permitting. But lag is the only downfall of a i/cooler, but the benefits are worth it in air temp as chris said.
Hope this helps,
Dan :afro:

Hey,
chris - wit ha bit more airspeed, 19degrees on 7psi boost through all of second and third!!! crazy!
My turbo was only $770, and yeah- it has gone 12.57 on a exa...
If you move the airflo meter, make sure you take into consideration the sensors in the crossover log, or it wont idle when its cold...
No turbo's a easy bolt on job, but some like the CA18DET y25 are a lot easier than others. And yeah - $400 is a fair price.
Exhaust, 2.5 will be right unless your chasing 150kw+ and dont bother with stainless unless your rich - I got a second hand exhaust on my car, 2.5 inch steel and its fine... Cost next to nothing aswell! Jsut take your time and see what comes up at a right price -thats what I allways do!

thanks guys,
how do i make it idle when its cold then? what is that 'log' there for? can i get rid of it when i move the AFM?

Hey,
I had my log blocked up but then when i got my engine re-built, my turbo guy said i can have it taken out completely, all you need to do is weld up the coolant inlets; two little holes u'll see when you remove it (coming from the manifold) otherwise it'll spray out! and the air sensor they have re-attached just behind where it used to be, so as long as u have a line plumbed somewhere from the air intake to that sensor you can get rid of the log all together and it will be fine on cold idle, mine is!! :D
I hope that makes sense,

Hey,
yeah - or you can leave it there, block one end off and plum the other into the inlet track...

alrighty
so if i move the afm and have the airfilter behind the headlight then i sitll need the log ducted in the intake tract somewhere?
(sorry just a little confused and trying not to stuff up to bad)

Hey,
The most common way i've gathered is to block of the LEFT side of the log(when looking at it from front of car) then make an adaptor so you have a small hose running from the RIGHT end of the log down to anywhere between the AFM and the turbo( i think, trying to picture it in my head  ). If your still confused, take a look at some pics on www.N12turbo.com at the readers cars, there are lots of variations, but its really quite simple once you've done it. But what-ever you do, make sure the AFM is the right way up once you've fixed it in its new place :p

thanks very much to everyone that posted
so after i get this done the plan is 3 inch dump pipe 2.5 inch the rest of the way and turbosmart type 1 BOV and maybe VL TB. Is there anything i should remember when putting BOV on or VL TB or has anyone had any problems when doing either? last but not least where should i go from here with mods?

Hey,
You shouldn't have any probs with a bov or the VL throttle body, might be easier to get your local exhaust place to fabricate some kinds of extension to fit the BOV(less chance of a leak) then all you have to do is the plumbing and your set!
And after those mods are done, the best thing to do would be to get a bigger turbo and then an intercooler.
Look forward to hearing a progress report once you've got the turbo! :)
Dan :afro:
p.s i would definately recomend the Go Fast Bits Type 1 over the turbosmart...

when your installing the vl TB first put it in and if the inner lip of the original plenum is under 1mm then dont bother taking off the plenum and gridning it down the extra effort is not worth it.
if you take off the plenum you will have to make a new gasket for it and its a bit of a bitch to do.
