Hey I'm brand new here and just wondering if you guys can help me and my girl friend out. She owns a 92 NX that was recently broken into.
Her deck was ripped out of the center console and now something a little odd is happening. Every time she turns on her interior light her clock on her dash goes out...when she turns her light off her clock comes back on.
Any ideas? Are there diagrams available on this forum for the electrical system of her car, or should I just go out and by a haynes or chiltons?
Thanks for the help I'm sure I'll be popping in and out a lot more :hello:

yeah, i broke my g/f in in the car too, it wa....
wait, u mean the CAR got broken in... :P

i know there was a wiring diagram up here somewhere, but that one only says what wires are what, the problem u have there sounds very odd.
go to an audio shop. buy an alarm and head unit. get both installed and then if it still doesnt work, then take it back and tell them they broke your clock.
At least that way the clock is fixed and the deck wont get stolen again! :D

How'd they get into the car exactly?

I know they can't use the coat hanger trick on the door cause I saw it happen when I bought mine. The RACV had to brake into my car cause the stupid alarm that was installed previously was faulty, it would randomly lock the car whether car was running or not. And my drivers side door was shut accidently and the car still running. When the RACV came out they couldn't get to the lock to pull the pin, apparently Nissan NXR's have a metal plate across the top of the door to prevent this from happening. <<edited for security reasons>> So I am getting my old alarm I had in previous car installed ASAP. Good luck trying to find Haynes books on NX's, I have been searching for ages, closest I have come is the comprehensive manual that Nissan Dealerships use, costing about $200-$400 somewhere between that. Have you swapped the fuse, when the stereo was ripped out. It mave have not exactly blown the fuse but damaged it, I'm not exactly sure but it can't hurt. Also without going to huge expense, this might be it and save you the trouble of getting some Auto Elect charging a fortune for something simple. Although I guess it would most likely be the wiring sounds a little weird.

Good luck with it all.

Easy, here is a few ideas;

1. dont turn the interior light on if she wants to see what time it is.
2. im sure she owns a watch.
3. use the clock on her fone
4. put a sun dial on the dash for her.

Back to reality. From memory the interior light and the clock should not have anything to do with each other in terms of power sourcing. Does the clock reset itself?? Im guessing it doesnt. I think you might find if you went investigating some dodgy wiring as a result of the stereo being "gently" taken out. Something fishy with earth is my bet.

I really cant think of what is causing that, and ive played with my electrics heaps.... im interested to hear what was causing this, keep us all posted.

It sounds like you've wired the illumination wire to something it shouldn't be, probably negative on the new deck.

From memory it is a black wire which is somewhat misleading, but I think it had a coloured stripe (red?)

Go to the Sound System section and at the top there is a sticky post containing the wiring schematics, check the installation of your new deck there. The deck will have to be earthed elsewhere, im using the anchor points for the deck mount, and it seems to be fine. If you're running a more seriously powered deck though you might want to find somewhere you can tap directly into the chasis.

Goodluck

haha you guys are hilarious. Thanks for all the tips and pointers they should come in handy for sure. Yeah I have a feeling the wiring in her NX is all messed up. She had placed the stereo system in her self, deck, speakers, sub and amp and blew it lol cause she was just crossing wires, doing the good ol' does it work now? tests. Anyways needless to say I'm sure she crossed a few wires around in there when she installed her system.
Im not sure either and either is she, but just above where the deck is located there is a box there in the console behind a removable piece of plastic. I wasn't sure what it is, does anyone know? ECU? Stock amp? Something aftermarket?
Oh and Art...they got into her car by smashing the passenger side window, and ripping the stereo. Maybe I shoudl try and get some pics and post em up to help.
As for now though I'll fiddle around and see what I can do, thanks for all the help guys I'm sure I'll be back lol

first of all, completely disconnect any of the wires u used previously for the stereo, then get a good earth, a good constand 12v and a good acc wire. take those 3 to the headunit, connect the speaker wires (if ur speakers go to the unit) and the remote wire.
then see if it still does it..

Hey NXRSR20

I'm not sure if the others have taken note of your thread, but personally I would appreciate you editing out how to break into our cars. Yes it may come in handy for ourselves one day but still, you never know who is reading this. :sold:

your stock ecu sits on top of the tunnel behind your stereo and is anchored down.

Feel free to yank that s**t up out of there at your nearest convinience lol and replace!
