The Toyota Sera has GULLWING doors as does the Mercedes 300SL, Mazda AZ-1, DMC DeLorean, and the Roman / Ford Falcon ute concept.
As well as that custom car above (is it a civic coupe?), SCISSOR doors can be seen on the Lamborghini Diablo and Murcielago, the McLaren F1. A fiero with the scissor conversion can be seen >>> here <<< (http://www.iserv.net/~strdream/hinges_production.html) An eclipse with the scissor door conversion can be seen >>> here <<< (http://www.angelfire.com/de2/randskustumz/newscissordoor.html)

the SERA actually has scissor doors like the lambo, not gullwing doors...
imagine how hard it would be to find a carpark if you had gullwing doors..

Matt is tight here, sissor doors are when only the door and window open upwards and a gullwing door like the sera has lifts the door window and a section of the roof up on an angle. matt was right... and yeah parking would be bloody hard, u'd ned god damn wide car parks.

me thinks gettin into gullwing doors (passenger side of course) when drunk would be a hassle...they'd have to be completely hydraulic and electric....and hey, what about parralel parking???

suicide doors would be the best route for the pulsie as if you were to put gullwing's in you would lose the side window due to the pillars you would need to put in to hold up the weight of the door at the bottom...but the t-bar would work perfect for that if it were fesable...
suicide would be the route i would go as all you would have to do is relocate the hinges and the lock and possibly the handle...if you didnt do the handle you would have to use two hands to open the door...plus you would prolly have to notch in the rear of the doors to account for the "pinch"...if that makes any sense to you's...
but if you were handy with the welder and panel beating...definatly an option.

i havent really thought about the process for lazer doors yet...i am sure i will.

ummm, correct me if im wrong, but werent suicide doors as main doors (not loke rx8) taken outta production due to their tendency to fly open at high speeds???and this was back in the day when high speed was 150km/h...i seriously wouldnt want that happenin to my car...and how difficult would it be to get an engineers certificate for gullwing/scissor/suicide door conversoins??

yes suicide doors are illegal unless the vehicle came with them...but who cares...just dont open them in front of cops-hehe!

Well that solves it then... :heehee:
I do admit suicide doors will probably be the easiest to do but will still try the scissor door.

Another cool mod i've seen on some show cars is the boot (trunk) that opens not at an angle, but parallel to the lines of the car. The hinges are arranged so the boot lifts straight up without tilting. Looks great and wouldnt be too hard to do on a sedan. With an exa it may be trickier to do it and keep the removeable function... worth looking into though.

those trunks on the hondas are easy...
all you have to do is undo two bolts...put new holes going horizontal where the rear bolt are and then slide a new bolt through.
those trunks are not functional as at shows they are always up...
no offence!!!
but for the pulsie...hmmmm...now there is a bigger job plus alot of extra weight-hehe!

Yeah thats what I was talking about Jason! Pretty pointless thing to do but it still looks cool. I'm sure its entirely possible to make it functional as well.
