A member was permanently banned due to a joke about stealing.
A strict set of rules was put in place and some info regarding legalities...

Anyway, i wonder if we need to take note of these, cos apparently a lot of threads and posts here clearly break the law...

That link is for the Internet Censorship Bill in SA.
Im not trying to be a bummer, but id hate for the club to be sued or shut down over something like this...

PGA are a much more involved club than us, they are a actual organisation and all the bull.

So no this does not really apply to us to a certain degree. But the as mods we do keep a close eye on what we need to.

Thanks for the heads up though mikey mike

that mean some of us have to change our avatars and stop talking about our blow off valves, 17" wheels, and john howard? i was browsing the rules and it says the usaual stuff but not about people saying they want to put a vg20dett in an exa or they were doing 75 down jetty road the other night. should we have a clarification or are wh ok with what we've been posting so far?

its obvious that i'm board at work....

PGA in my opinion are a bunch of kn00bs anyway
i mean
come on, no posting of modified cars? HELLLOOO the whole idea of a car club is to get in on the action when it comes to modifying your car, showing it off, and generally having a good time
withou that, whats the point of having a 'car club' to what, sit at home infront of the telly watching the footy?

pffft

One of the major issues with what has happened on the PGA forum is that the member has been BANNED PERMANENTLY without any sort of 'trial' (for want of a better word).

Don't know how it is going to end up, but we should probably take it as a warning:

- That while we generally know the people who contribute on these forums, it is the people we don't know that could be a problem. We do NOT know who else may read this material - either now or in the future.
There is a concept know as vicarious liability - basically, if a person knowingly allows a person to break the law, then they are - to some extent also liable..

- There is a heads up for Mods/Admins. You have a lot of power - use it carefully. If people **** up, pull them up on it first. If it is serious, suspend them while looking into the matter - THEN if considered necessary, ban them. I would suggest that the decision to ban somebody should be made by more than one person.

Nothing destroys discussion groups faster than a decent bunfight..

Mods: This may be better in the Site Related forums..

It's funny when people talk about a 'free country' and 'freedom of speech'. There's really no such thing... sure you can do what you want and say what you want, but be prepared to pay for it if the Government or other agencies/groups etc don't approve. Censorship sucks sometimes but it's there for the benefit of everyone as a whole.

What's the story about it? Is there a link so we can see what happened there? I haven't visited the PGA forums in a while. About the banning issue, it's a web forum.. they can pretty much ban whoever they like. They don't need to consult anyone. It might suck if you're on the receiving end but that's how things are. I was banned from the Hot4's forums a while back.. guess what for? For telling a female member not to get her panties in a knot.. YEP.. it was a permanent ban too. They didn't PM me to tell me why.. nor did they respond to my email. And you guys think you've got it tough here.

A lot of sites have gone up shit creek lately.. PGA, Hot4's are just a couple. :(

We have it easy here. i think that we'll only have a problem if someone does something stooopid like say they were doing 150km/h past a speed camera in their supercharged v6 exa with no numberplates and a john howard dummy strapped to their boot........... not likely a problem i think, and i recon the webmasters here will warn you and erase the thread b4 you get tossed without a reason.

link is at the botom of this thread. just to recap.

We do enjoy a lot of freedom - freedom of speech, freedom to drive (almost) what car we like, when we like, where we like.

However, with that freedom comes a responsibility to use it wisely.

Much of the time, new laws that restrict freedom are the result of a small number of :!!: who take things for granted and abuse those freedoms (the new 'hoon' laws for example) .

A few years ago I shared my office with a young lady from the Eastern block. Her parents were going to be visiting for a few weeks. One day she turned to me and asked me 'What permits do I need to go to the Flinders Rangers' (a national park about 400km North of Adelaide).
I explained that she may need a permit from the Park Rangers to enter some areas of the park, but other than that she could just go there.
She seemed a little surprised at that - she was expecting to require permission from the Government to be allowed to travel that far...

With the forums, there are (and must be) 'boundarys' on acceptable behaviour - no argument whatsoever on that point. I believe however that unless particularly serious a 'heads up' to the person concerned is preferable..
I think in this forum, things seem to work pretty well - I've no complaints.

You can get banned for letting another user post from your acccount hahahaha.
The bad thing is you have to pay $US10 to register with them. Being an arse can be costly.
