this has a few, depends on's in it.
it all depends what his setup is, eg. does he have a stock computer, is it intercooled, etc.
i used to run 10psi with my stock air research, no intercooler but aftermarket ecu.
I would say that it would be safe to run 12psi provided there is no pinging that can be heard, and not all the time. Say stock psi for round town, and 12psi for racing.
pretty much with the stock ecu, 12 - 14psi is the max anyways, even with an ic 14 is about the max.
i saw inlet temp of up to 91degrees with the stock turbo and no intercooler, this is enough to melt a piston under high revs.
Although the turbo can put out a max of around 19psi (or 21 for the oil cooled garrett) it becomes non efficient after about 10 and starts producing heat.
basically im rambling cause ive had a bit to drink, but imho no more than 12psi, regardless of setup, if you can hear it pinging, back the boost off a bit or back the timing off a bit (boost is the safer option)
Paul.

Hey,
I'd say 10-12psi... But any more boost than 7psi is dancing with the devil with a t2 and stock computer... Dont forget to remove the over boost valve.....

I know the car is intercooled but i think he is still running the stock computer
any ideas

i would say 12psi, and definitely no more than 14psi.
if you want the motor to last a while, 12psi max.

ive just told him what you just put nissman.
he wants to know whats the most the motor will take
and what mods will have to be done to get it to that
this is his first turbo and turbo engined car

i used to run 15psi everyday all day on my stock motor without any probs. My mate used to run 21psi.
i would say 14 is the max with the stock computer, but to run this you would at least need an intercooler and a t25 or t28 turbo.
the small t2 produces too much heat at anything over 10psi.
after 14psi everything hits its limit, injectors max out, computer leans out the car, turbo is past its limit.

hey guys
sorry similar question but you guys seem to know what you are talking about
i have 87 ET unleaded engine, t28 turbo , mach 4 supra intercooler(i think), pod filter and standard ecu
wondering what power i should be getting running standard boost and what sort of boost my setup as a whole could take
also would a blow off valve allow more boost
thanks

Hey,
that setup should allow around 80-85kw at the wheels with around 10-12psi. I would recomend that much boost for reasonlably reliable power. A BOV will not allow any more boost, just give cool sounds ;)

an absolute waste of time, you might get 5kw cause t2 is so far out of efficiency range

i agree with boostin,
dont really understand what you are refering to chris... which car?

Hey,
I believe chris would be refering to lifting the boost with the standard t2 turbo. At 7psi its allready on the edge of its efficency range therefore lifting the boost (especially without a cooler) will be of almost no benefit...

i was just wondering as my car seems pretty quick i mean ive kept up with and beaten vs commodores and kept up with a vy the other night along with many other cars which have tried and failed
also what sort of things would i be looking at doing to get my baby above the 100kw mark??
is it possible??
thanks steve

Hey,
you'll really want an aftermarket computer, a microtech or a Wolf 3D - something like that. It will give you much more power, relaibility and basically a smoother package... It will also allow you the scope for furhter modifications... I still believe it was the best mod I have done to date.
