hi all... if someone could lend a bit of wisdom, as i'm not the most profficient in car audio...

The Car i have just bought has a cheap 4chan amp running splits and 6x9s (want to dump the 6x9s eventually), and a 2chan amp running 2 subs.

Over the weekend, the shitty 4 chan shat itself when some clothes of mine were flung on top of it, and i think it overheated. I'm now getting a nice crackly noise through the splits and 6x9s...

What would be my best option for the moment? I'd like to just disconnect the shitty 4chan amp, what's the best way of doing this, can i just remove the fuses to stop it from pulling power?

Also, i can't afford a decent 4chan for a while, so i was considering just leaving the 2chan in place for now with the subs, and running the splits off the deck, and maybe the 6x9s if i can be arsed....

does all this seem ok to do as a temp solution until i can whack a massive 4 chan amp in there?

cheers

pulling the fuse should work.
also removing the negative (black wire) should work.
not too sure about this one, but there should be a blue wire (amp rem) that the head unit uses to tell the amp when to turn on. disconnecting that should stop it from turning on.

You might get lucky and find the old speaker cable is still there to connect to the head unit (mine is) .. then you can just plug it in. You never know what is left behind :devilburn

cheers for the advice....
turns out it was the ground wire to the 2chan which disconnected itself somehow :P
put it back in and all is well! lol

Ummm...Warren dude you know I'm a certifide audio engineer don't you???

gimmie a call or something and i'll come up one weekend and give you a hand to rewire the car. I have a spare amp sitting around which will do your 6x9s if you want to borrow it for say 6 months??

yes, i know, i know... I would've asked next time i spoke to ya! :)
It's all sorted now though... :)

I'm thinking of ditching the 6x9s anyway, and getting rear filler spkrs running off the deck, and ultimately i want to get a powerful 4channel to run both subs bridged, and the splits....
not sure yet :)
