Thats one thing about these cars that piss me off
The only way to take the bottom timing cover off is to take the pulley.

from memory i tihnk you have to remove the waterpump pully, and also the crank pully. there is a long bolt down the bottom in the middle that is hard to come out, it loosens, but wont pull out until the belts are all off.
its a bitch of a job ill tell ya that!!

your gonna have to lossen of the power steer belt there will be an adjuster nut but there will also be another bolt that it pivots on thet will need to be loosened (if you can get it loos remove the 4 bolts in the water pump pulley and slide it off and the belt should come off )then remove water pump pulley and crank pulley then there a quite a lot of internal hex bolts that you will have to remove make sure you use the right size or u will strip the head and then you will have fun there are 2 10 mm bolts at top to un do as well cover should pretty much fall off after that

hope this helps
