Hey,
The Turbo and Engine would be ur main concern, I bought my 84 with plenty of minor and major mods, mags, lowered, sports muffler, boost controller, turbo upgrade, flawless interior, perfect body, rebuilt engine and a handful more, all this he wanted $4000 but i got it for $3700. :D but u'd want it to be in very good condition, or at least have had a recent rebuild or new turbo. Cos buying an N12 is NOT going to be a smooth daily driver, they need lots of attention! But i never regret buying it, they're heaps of fun to drive! I'd need sum more info on it to give u a better opinion tho....
Insurance isn't cheap but Just Cars Insurance in Melb will insure ya, i'm 18 and my car is now heavily modified and they still insure me and at $580 p.a for 3rd party, fire and theft.
got any pics of it?

Hey,
Hmmm - why are these things goiung for so much money now???? I bought mine std, with a few minor probs for $1100... Now that she is heavily modified and my insurance company (shannons) know about every single modification I pay $59 per month for third party only...
I recomend buying a n12 exa, but that seems a bit pricey... Get some more info for us, ie, how many kays? How long since major parts have been overhauld - turbo, motor, brakes etc... Receipts?

hey, its totally standard but the owner is a 70 year old classic car enthusiast and i know the car has never been driving above 60 K's, i dont think its had a rebuild, or a new turbo, but the computer was replaced not long ago ( a mechanics wrong solution to whats called the loose pin syndrome). its in very good nic, theres not a spot of rust but the paint on one side is a bit faded. im gunna try and get it for $3000 since he said $4000 straight off without any thought but there car is in great condition mechanicly and i think would last a while. and what do you mean by they need lots of attention. your help is very appreciated.

Hey,
Basically at this age the car is between 18-20 years old, things are going to go wrong, if the engine is still A1, thats a big hassle out the way, things like gearbox, clutch should be fine, you may find hoses are on the way out, and other small things, if the car has never been modified it may not take to kindly to your "improvements" but thats half the fun eh? :heehee: , the turbo prolly doesn't know what the word "spool" or "boost" is by the sounds of the driver :p But it may be wearing itself out, you'll probably want a bigger one n e way, $3000-$3500 would be ok, definately no more!

wow,
you drive a hard bargain sam! :p In adelaide there is always an exa for sale that they advertise in really good cond. and they are mostly $3000-$5000 and quite std. (which i agree is waaay too much for a std. EXA) i was never gonna pay over $4k, and mine was in awesome condition apart from the fact my manifold cracked 8 months later...
I laughed at the guy on N12turbo.com trying to sell his Exa, and it aint very special... has a nice paint job, thats all, i laughed when i saw what he wanted for it... http://www.n12turbo.com/cars/shaun_m/shaun_morris.html
But guy, you gotta decide if you think that its worth it as sam said, it aint my money, only you've seen the car, i was happy with the price i paid cos i wanted a reliable EXA, and to last 8 months with only a radiator hose goin bust is pretty good considering the mods its had.
Hope you get a good price!

Hey,
god damn! Thats the only reason why I bought my Exa, cos she was cheep and cheerfull!!! I actually only paid $1075 cos I bargained him down from $1400 I think. A fellow member "chris 2" and I went to check out an exa that was a little rough, but good mechanically, standard, no roadworth/rego for $600. We offered him $400 and walked away... Were gonna drop a 12sec motor in it and strip (and I mean strip!!!) the interior and make a Drag only n12.. Would have been sweet!
And oh, yeah - I only buy bargains - never pay retail!!!!

i bought my 85 about 4 years ago for 3000 down from 4000 which i think was a great deal since it was in totally standartd condition, an updated 85 model, it was very straight and had a recent respray, too bad its not like that now.. too much chopping and changing and its starting to show its age a bit.
plus it had receipts for everything done since it was new. 2 years before i bought it the previous owner put a new t2 in which cost him 1100 OUCH :flamedevi

Didnt really read the other posts so if i repeat myself eh.. ignore me.. lol... ummm.. all i can say is look for rust around the coolin system... and when u look at the resivior cap(overflow bottle) and radiator cap... be better if there is coolant in there but if they r using water just make sure the colour of the water is still clear... if its not and browny in colour(rust residue) either have money aside to fix it or dont buy it... eh.. im just stressin the point coz i had a complete rebuild of the coolin system and it set me back $2437.50... and i wasnt to happy... so yeah other wise buy the exa... sounds nice
