how much harder is it to swap ca16de to ca18det, than ca18de to ca18det

is it more worth it because of the rear disks etc
89, so its got the 4x100 stud pattern as well

They all have the 4x100 stud pattern. Main problem you will find is that the CA16DE gearbox isn't as strong as the CA18DE gearbox. So if you were to upgrade to the CA18DE gearbox for the CA18DET, you will need quite abit considering you going from cabel clutch to hydrolic clutch.

changing the clutch from cable to hydo is actually not that bad, as long as you can get the whole assembly from a hydo clutch.
where the holes are around the boot for the cable, the mounts for the pedal bolt up to the plunger on the other side of the firewall...the pedal is held on to the plunger using a pin!
then the slave cylinder is mouted to the tranni with two nuts/bolts...you just have to make sure you use the tranni from a hydo car.
the only problem with that is you have to remove the heater tube above the steering column to have room to remove the pedal assembly...kind of a pain!

ok... i read somewhere that pre 88 had the n12 pattern which is weird.

so u think i should just look for a CA18DE exa?

pattern for what???
tranni or wheels?
once i used an 88-18de motor from an automatic into an 87-16de 5 speed car...two things i had to change were the o2 sensor as the 88-18de used a 1 wire sensor and the body out of the 87-16de was set up off the harness with a 3 wire o2...saw a post on the old board about wiring up an o2 sensor by using power and ground(somthing like that)???
second was a bushing(pilot)in the crank i had to remove as the input shaft from the 87 16de 5 speed the end was different than the automatic.
but the tranni bolted right up...and the 16 tranni took the ponies...called nissan to find out if it would handle it...but i dont think it would take the turbo.
