Error #34 Detination Sensor

After resetting my computer and taking the car for a run there was no errors, but after I flogged the gutz outa it and done another test I got #34

Does this means it's faulty or does it mean it detected pre-ignition ?

And, how does this sensor work..

DET sensor (aka knock sensor) is on ECU pin 23 as per http://www.users.bigpond.com/webspace/180sx/ca18eccs.htm

That site doesn't explain the workings of the sersor. I did read in another post that you can unplug the sensor and connect inline a resistor to fool the computer that there is no problem. I have to look back around to find out the value of the resistor and give it a try.
