Reliable ones are the Bosch ones fitted to the ETs I think. They were either rated at 60 or 70A. I got mine from Nispares or was it Datspares somewhere around Bayswater in Melbourne.
Installation is quite simple. A few bolts from the top to loosen the belt that drives the alternator. Then from the bottom I think its 2 or 3 long bolts that hold the Alternator up. You will need to remove the drivers side mud guard, the one under the engine.
I think that was it from memory. Remember to disconnect the negative battery terminal.

just a bit of pointless info for you.

there are actually 3 alternators that i know of that fit out little beasts.
the bosch, this has a single pin plug on the back of it, and is common on et's. Has a slightly higher amperage than the stock exa altern.
the hitachi one, stock on exa's, has a 2 pin plug on the back, and about 10 amps less than the bosch. I bought a reco one of these, same amps as the bosch for 130.
then there is a mitsubishi one, it bolts straight up, has the same amps as the bosche, but i had to swap it for the hitachi above because it would only put out 13.1 volts rather than 14.1 (i have a pretty big stereo, and need the extra volt!)

so there are three to choose from.

Hey guys
just put on my new alternator
talk about a pain in the ass job to do

First off, i couldnt get the plastic Dirt cover off the bottom of the car, so i had to break 2 clips to remove it
still has 2 clips + 2 bolts holding it on

then i removed the alternator, but it wouldnt come out from the wheel arch, whys this ?
I didnt remove the bracket
DUH

so i removed the bracket, pulled her out, put the new one on and wallah
she's running now

But i've noticed that theres abit more power, is this ment to be happening ?

cheers

I dunno about the power but I heard (maybe from n12turbo.com) that the Hitachi items (stock Exa item) are fairly unreliable and waste of money. I got my Bosch ET item for about $70 2nd hand I think, and its sweet! The extra power might be a subconscious thing. Maybe more power to the plugs? I dunno anything. haha
