Ok guys just thought i'd let you all know i've just changed my shockies, really straight forward process... i paid about $240 for all 4 shockies (monroe gt gas).
rear shockies - unbolt top and bottom, remove old shock, insert new shock with new bushies, really easy and straight forward.
front shockies - 2 bolts behind the disc and unclip the brake line. up top undo the 3 holding it down then pull the whole mount out. get a spring compressor on the spring, then one nut on top, remove the old shockie and reverse the process...
all up i'd say took no more then an hour to do myself and very noticable difference, but thats due to 3 of my old shockies not working, ie you could compress them and they wouldn't uncompress, really shitty.

i paid 20 bucks for the rear shockies took them home and had to modify them to fit with the 17s.
it feels bad to chop up aftermarket stuff, even if it was cheap.

they were second hand in excellent condition
i had to cut off the dustcovers.. from memory i think thats all i had to do, that was for the front though, you wont have to modify the rears.

i think you meant it the other way round, had to grind the dust covers off the back, dont need to touch the front.
also be carefull with monroe gt gas, i put em in the front of my car with king springs "low"springs, they bottomed out like a bitch from the day i put em in.
rang monroe b4 i got em, they said they would handle it no probs, once they were in and no good, they wouldnt warrent them.
rang whiteline, they said monroe is shit.
koni adjustables $430 front, $750 front and rear, and less if you pay cash.
not knocking monroe, dad had em in his rally car and never had a hassle with them, but in my exa they have been a headache since the day go.

As soon as i get paid for an outstanding project I am going to get new springs and shocks.
My original springs have either been cut or have sagged a tad bit.
How much lower than standard are the king low springs?
Any good but not too expensive shocks? I should be able to get them trade or near trade price *cross fingers*
Thanx

are these the correct part numbers for our exas?
FRONT: (low) KMFL-06
REAR : (low) KDRL-50
cause they list PULSAR N12 but are all n12s the same, cause then under N13 theres PULSAR N13 and PULSAR N13 EXA 2 DOOR...
just curious fellas

yes they are the same for all pulsars and exas. im not sure about spring rates though..
im using a set from a et pulsar that i bought for 20 bucks.. bargain..
also for anyone thats interested, the rear springs from the s13 and possibly r32 fit also but they are longer but with a lot more coils..

Ok whats the deal for fitting konis into our cars? The back would bolt straight up, but from what I have heard, the front need to be replaced into the std strut or something.
Anyone running KYB shockies? They sell the whole strut as a replacement, for a lot less than the konis too....

jeffET: from what you described it sounds like you are talking about a strut insert, however exa/et's have a full macpherson strut, you cannot remove an insert, its all one piece.
Koni do make a bolt in replacement for the front of our cars, they sell at whiteline for $400, or less if you pay cash.
kyb is not much cheaper than that, a bit over $300 from memory.
ChaosLTD: it is correct, king springs are made to lower the car 1 to 1.5 inches, however when i put mine in, after about a week of settling in, they dropped the car around 2 inches.
i am not happy with the height of the back, its not even with the front though.
if you are after improved handling, i would suggest a set of wheels and good tyres as well. Min 15" with some low profile tyres. I went from stock et rims with reasonable tyres to 17's with super low profile, and the difference in handling and response was crazy!

400 is that per corner or for the whole front end? if its for two, that is shitcheap for koni, and itd take all of 1/2 hr to replace!! Cool...
How much would a whole koni/king springs/front,rear swaybars from whiteline cost aye?! couple that with some decent 16s, and itd be a sweet ride...gotta save up then....

yeh, 400 was for the front pair, for all 4 it came to a bit over $700.

Is the back too low or too high?

i payed 190 for all 4 springs, and 380 for my shocks, my car is only lowerd an 1 and a quater, but i was told it would be the same price if it was 2 inches..

it is too high, in the front, the guard is level with the tyre, in the back it is about half an inch higher than the tyre.
When driving the back dips down and it looks ok, but when stationary it is too high.
it was perfect with my sub box, but i am also a fan of cars that are slightly lower in the back.
