Hello its me again,

Im rebuilding my E16 and would like to know If I can shave the head. I took it off and had a look, it does not look like there is too much clearance between where valves rest and the bottom of head. My friend said that if I shave too much the pistons will kiss the valves!

Can someone clear this up, and tell me how much I can safely shave.

(bonus question: Is there any point in doing a port and polish job? What are the benefits?)

yes you can shave your head , only problems would be your mum and school policy... ohh sorry wrong answer :hitwall: :heehee:

the problem with shavign too much off is that you will bump the compression up, you can overcome this with a custom head gasket though.

port and polish job will allow the engine to breathe and flow better, prices vary and you'll gain some top end power but not much.

port and polish is basically to maximise the efficency of air flow isn't it?

your car is na right??
if so then bumping up the compression would give you a bit more go!
you can shave a fair bit off the head, rme runs e15na engines in his sprint cars, and he was saying he has close to 70thou decked off his head, he also uses the turbo head on the non turbo bottom end due to its larger ports and better flow... maybe something to think about.

i have had 20 thou shaved off my head due to the fact that it had been reco'd in the past, to couteract that i have the inlet valves fly cut back into the head, slightly increases flow and increases combustion chamber volume, workes a treat too
