I have recently acuired a 87 pulsar 1.6L carby (N13). And after having a drag with my friend's 86 corolla I was not happy.
I want to know what can I do to go faster. I was thinking putting a E 15 motor in, but the question is should I get a carby version or a later injected version? How hard is it or how expencive to wire up the sencors, ECU etc.?
Or should I just put in Ce18 DET motor, how compatible are they with n13 pulsar?
Whats cheapest and easiest guys?

hey dude,
The e15et is a old donk and parts are hard to get and are expensive.
I'd go for the Ca18det.. more power and fairly cheap... The ca18det is a fairly easy and straight forward bolt on job... just make sure when you purchase the DET... it must be from a U12 Bluebird. they have all the correct manifolds for a front wheel drive.... if you get a rear wheel drive... then expect problems getting the bugger in.
good luck

the e15 engine is generally out of the n12 series pulsars. if you did go that way i would suggest getting the E15et WHICH IS the turbo model, the E and C engines arent worth bothering with.
it would be good having a lighter engine in the front as the weight balance would improe and hanling should increase. howeer, the cost to put one of these very old engines in instead of going ca18det would be momentous, and it will still be a 1.5L sohc 20 year old engine!
save yourself a lot of hassles and money and go ca18det, now if you had an n12, i would be saying the exact opposite ;)
well done for doing ur research mate, now tell us more about ur pulsar! :heehee:

dont bother with the e15et. they are a great motor, but i wouldnt waste my time... too underpowered for your application. btw parts are as easy as f$#k to find and are cheaper now than they have ever been. besides it will never be legal, because you are putting a leaded engine into an unleaded car, and the emissions are heaps worse for the e15
i say go with the ca. fwd ca18det's are getting hard to find now though, and finding a good one will be even harder. if you just want to blow away your friends corolla, a ca18de in a pulsar hatch will do it easy, but we all know there is nothing like the feeling when a turbo engine comes on to boost

Thanx for your advice guys, yeh I was thinking that it would be much harder to find a decent E-15 around since they're all usually thrashed anyways. How much is a decent CA18 DET japanese import? And cince I dont have much money so I will have to do the work myself, whats the rough cost of such operation ( CA18 DET into 87 Pulsar). If there is anyone in Perth area that has connections for parts, engines etc. please let me know.
And by the way I gonna give my friend another race cause last time I think I was sloppy on the changes cause I was a bit stoned ))))

im just wondering is ur car a n13 australian pulsar ?
or a n13 pulsar nx (exa) ?
the cheapest ca18det i could find was $1200 wif a box and it was RWD off a silvia
umm i say go for a SR20DET ..if ur doin it ur self the only cost is the engine which ive seen advertised for $1400
if u put a Sr20det in ur car.. and it comes time to sell ur car will hold its value better because i no if i was lookin for a car i would piortise a 2.0 ltr turbo over a 1.8 espically because sr20's in pulsar/exas are rare .
also i read some where on this site that sr20det gear boxs are alot easier to come by then ca18det's.

I have a confession to make guys, my car is actually n12 not n13.
Since im a convert from Ford I dont know the models too well and my Owners Manual was for a N13 so I thought.... nevermind, It looks like those Pulsar ET's exept the front lights are thiner and longer, thats why I thought about E15ET cause Its simmilar to ET, sorry guys.

CA's do BOLT into aus N13 pulsars, but need the EXA gearbox for starter motor, Vicroad consider this a CATOGORY 2 conversion, same cc's and OEM.
