These comments have been sourced from Performance Forums... the general agreement on there is that Optimax seems to work well most of the time, but most people find either Ultimate or Synergy 8000 to be more consistent.

I was employed by Shell to promote Optimax to the general public when it was first released in Qld and ended up working for Shell for about 8 months. I could tell you that Optimax is 98ron, is a high density, high octane fuel so it burns slower and cleaner giving more power. It also has cleaning agents in it to clean the carbon off valves etc... The result of all this high tech fuel wizardry is a petrol that gives you more power and better fuel economy.

Reality time...from personal experience Optimax is inconsistent. I do believe this is because of it's shelf life. High octane fuels do go bad. The fuel is produced in Melbourne and shipped everywhere else so if you live in outback WA forget about it!

From personal experience i have learned not to use Optimax in bikes as this seems to do very very bad things to the engines which equals a rebuild. Why? Not sure but the mechanic refuses to use it in his racing bikes too.

I use Ultimate always. I find the power is still there and the fuel economy is better. The consistancy is also there however i live very close to a very busy BP that feeds alot of turbo cars.
I have only used Mobil a few times so no comment.
For me the winner is Ultimate. :D

Shell use a detergent in the fuel called poly-2-dichloroetheylene that is used to help keep the temps of the cat a bit lower to reduce the damage to it. The detergent is murder on spark plugs in bikes, because not only dont they have cats, but the substance is under pressure longer on the efi system of a car and tends to stabilise and not cause the problems in cars for whatever reason. Putting premium unleaded in a car 91 ron car will increase fuel economy if nothing else. It is cheeper to run ANY car in pulp regardless of what it's intended for and thats a fact.

I agree. Mind you in WA we only have the choice of PB Ultimate or Caltex Vortex.
