hey im going to be looking at an n12 project on wed.
its an 85 turbo (the 2nd series II exa built!)
its been deregistered and been in storage for over 12 months, the owner(3rd owner) was wanting to do it up but cant.
its nz new.
it has high mileage (220,000kms)
small rust on the drivers door and below the rear window.
mint interior
hes owned it for 6 years
completely standard including alloys and stereo :D

being a series II, does it have the RRC E15ET engine?
what are some checks i can do on it?

the battery is dead atm and is on charge, i was going to go tonite, but i want to see it running (and apparrently it runs well)

i recon it sounds like a perfect start for my n12 drag car project! what do ya think?

i assume you meanseries 2being the same as my 85 update model.

it has bigger brakes, bigger frotn sway bar, better rear lights better interior.

it sitll has the black rocker cover engine though, i dont think nissan used the red engine in the n12 series.

Hey,

Sounds like you could be on a winner for a project car, general maintence stuff would be what i'd check and ALL the hoses, when i bought mine the main hose/pipe from the throttle body had split and it took me ages to find the leak. just stuff that'll help ya bargain down the price : D

Obviously you'll be prayin that it doesn't start spewin out smoke when ya start it up :hitwall: There's millions of points to check with an N12, especially these days given their age as ya know, but if you can rule out some major things that may go wrong... engine, manifold condition, turbo and gearbox.
Everyone will have different things they say to check so get out your pen and pad!

check the turbo by taking the inlet pipe off and moving the centre shaft, it should have very little movement.
check the oil isnt milky or too black, and take it for a drive.
everything else is just have a look and see kinda stuff.

if it has the rrc engine i will definately get it, thatnx for the turbo idea...

i prob wont be able to drive it cos its not registered, but if its got plates i may drive it anyway. :D

its got standard wheels, they are like the et's wheels rite?

its a jap spec model but nz new so it may just have the rrc!!! :D

omg it was awesome!

the 1st turbo exa ive gone to see! :D
it needs a tune, battery and rust removed.

the engine is at 224000km and is pinging a little but will survive until i decide to do the "transformation"

i could get it roadworthy in a mnth.

you should see the interior... blue and black turbo interior *drool*
and the rear lights.. mmmm mmmm

i checked the turbo, no smoke and the turbine wheel is not loose.

there is a small leak in the front muffler.

anything else u wanna know? ;)

now i gotta convince my mum that its a perfect project ;)

(hieu in his best mr burns voice) 'EXXXXCELLENT' :bart:

good work, keep us updated on whats happening.. i was lucky that my dad was the one who found the exa for me.

as for the 85 model updates they are worth the extra money over the earlier models (although not much difference $ wise in the first place)... and in yoru wesbite you say you thought the NA model interior was quite nice :hitwall:

Hey,

Good to hear you found ur new baby :D
I have an 84 and i got the black and blue interior, i saw the alternative and shuddered its sooo ugly, so i dunno what year they started making those, i have a RRC, but its painted i think, previous owner did it. :bounce:

I know what your going through with the parents thing, i had to promise not to spend money on it for a month and not take passengers for 6 months!!! i had bought a POD filter a day after i bought it and took my mate for a burn the next day :dapimp
Hope you can deceive.. ah hem .... convince your parents like i did
