Hey yall. Well I settled for a clarion deck , rrp was about $380 but got it for $200. fuckin cranks. Now Im gonna add subs later but for now I only have Kenwood 4"splits (But they need to get replaced they came with the car) in the front and wanna add some 6x9" in the back. What brands are good? There's some Kicker Overdrives (Forgot specs) That sound the bomb. about $220 anyone know if kickers any good? Also If I fully crank it up full it gets a little distorted, Is that the crappy 4" splits The deck does a total of 200watts and the speakers are running off that.

oliver what is the individual watt rating on the speakers - cos distortion usually = lack of power.

the deck being 200rms. would make it about 4 X 50wmax. so probably about 15rms X 4 continuious power. trying to run speakers really doesn't help. yeah, distorting is due to lack of power. get an amp.
Go have a listen to Blaupunkt Velocity VX170.2 components. they are really nice.

K cheers.
So I need an Amp. Hey there's a 1500watt Boss amp for $250 at this place. What should i look for in an amp? If I get a powerfull enough amp, is it possible to run speakers and subs of a single amp?

It is possible to run spilts and a sub off an amp... a 4chl amp will do that... im runnin pioneer blades and 12" sub off a GM-X564 (pioneer) amp.... and it is sufficient enuff to hurt ur ears....
ummm.. and that amp (Boss 1500W) i think there was sumthin in one of the recent Hots 4... ummm... sayin that ' u get what u pay 4' but yeah i dont have enuff to comment

but guys remember that you should be able to run speakers of just the head unit with no hassles
also when are you getting the distortion - all the way through or just at loud volumes

try using something less than 47ufd(micro farads)
capacitor(bi-polar) on the 4's for now.
the deck is definatly a decent upgrade, i would upgrade to 6.5's in the front(splits or components-it's your money)up grade the rears to 6x9's, run that off the deck and see how it sounds.
then later, pick up a 4ch amp, put a sub or two on it and if you dont like the sound then amp the highs.
one rule with audio, smaller set up means less head-aches and stress.

Yeah the bass goes hell distorted at higher levels. I think it's the crappy splits. I'll get some like $250 overdrives and see how it goes with just them 4 now. I know my mates car has no subs and his cranks and his deck has same stats as mine. Must be the speakers.

Hey couple of things,
1)
Sony XPLODE 3 way 6x9 200watts? Any good?
2) 4 way speakers?? WTF?? I thought 3 way was as good as you can get, like it means it has a seperate cone for high mid and bass right? So whats 4 way for? Or am I wrong?
What should I look for in speakers? I don't get most of the stats...

Oli my friend... just a little word for ya
DO NOT GET SONY
Yeh those cheap ass 6*9's that came with tha car man (u remember them?) they say 4-way... i think it means that they are adjustable??? main woofer cone then it's got 3 in tha middle???
OK what you look for is how many RMS they can handle usually on a 4ohm load,
Lets say it looks something like this
maybe a brand name here
200W Peak
60W RMS
4OHM
3way 6*9's (it might have this or just a product code)
U want something with high RMS but something that sounds good and hopefully a well know good brand!
4ohm is the load of power it's sucking from the amp (or head unit in ur case) If u get a good amp it'll be very high RMS'ed @ 4ohm but will say stable 2ohm or something like that if it doesn't it aint a good amp (well it might be but it's restricted in tha way u wire it up)....
Hope this helps mate,
Craig.

whoaaa.
sony...medium quality...here goes...
sony decks/head units/signal processors=good
sony amplifiers=medium(look good, lack in power)
sony speakers= crap!!!
panasonic makes better speakers, or even kenwood...but i am very partial to boston accoustic...they are not too pricey and they sound really good for your money.
there are lots of other brands out there which could cost alot more money and still sound like crap so it's pretty much a trial and error with it.
if you can justify it...go with a 6.5" round and separate tweeter in the front...locate the tweeter in the flat spot on the heater vent(cut the round hole and run the wires down to the factory location and then glue in the tweeter)but remember to keep the x-over off the bottom of the door(inside) as the water will drain through there.
component/separate round speakers are the best for true sound.
as for the back...all you need is a set of two way 6x9's as 3-way is just a gimmac. dont waste your money on the rears as it is just for "fill" you want all your sound stage to come from the front.

hope that makes sense???

Yeh thanx for that TTrix!!!
I was actually going to put a post up "should i spend money on 6*9's for tha rear?"
but no need to now!!!
i just need to find some that'll fit! or maybe just go with 5"*7"ers
what ya think?
Craig.

um... umm... i think i've got 5x7 Kenwoods.. only got a ratin of 90W... but they r quite crappy... but that says nothin... i was speakin to a guy in audiocom (PERTH) and its actually more expensive to go to 5x7's and yet funny things is they r not as good as 6x9... thing is i would like to put 6x9's in but im skeptical on how they will fit...
TTriX
8th January 2003, 05:03 AM
the 6x9's will fit...just have to remove more plastic around the location.
but like i said...dont waste your money on the three-way ones as it's just a gimmac and you'll be more likely to blow the tweeter parts outta them anyhow.
kenwood does make some decent speakers...but remember, you get what you pay for...if you go with the excellon series from kenwood they are actually pretty good.
if was to put a stereo back in my pulsie, i would do just a small one.
it would consist of...
cd player, 6.5's in the front(components...ie.separate tweeter),
4 channel amplifier with built in x-overs,
6x9 two-ways in the back-running off the rear channels of the deck,
one 10" or 12" subwoofer.
amp the fronts with two channels and x them over at about 90hz, amp the sub(mono) and x it over under 70 hz.
thus it would give you most of your sound from the front, rears for fill(or if anyone sits in the back)and then the boom in the trunk...i ran this set up for quite a while back in the day before i went with the crazy multiple amps, subs and high spl stuff.
i might put something small back in my 5th pulsie but i am unsure as i am trying to keep the weight down-hehe
hope that helps...
as for equipment to buy...it's your money...but definatly stay away from sony speakers!!!

I will agree wiv ya there TTRIX... anyone readin this post/thread dont buy Sony's speakers they r fully crap.. had em and couldnt handle shit.. kept distortin and all... just a handy tip when u go bying speakers... coz they r cheaper.. they r sellin on their name... actually just remembered... these range of sony speakers (Mobile ES) are supposed to b real good... but are exclusive to places and yeah i still wouldnt buy em.. they r sony!
