hey ppl

my turbo is leaking between the parts....

here's my description...

the turbo is kinda rectangular shaped - original turbo unit.

if it were cut down the middle of the rectangle then that's where it's leaking...

question -

could this be causing problems with the engine missing..

i think no - but i dont know where the air flow meter is located.

if it's after the turbo then it should be all good...but lol

me thinks it's behind air pod..

Hey,
um, ok, just getting back to the description... Is it leaking air of oil? inside or outside the turbo?

if you mean oil, my old t2 did this.
it more than likely means you turbo is screwed. Pull the pipe off that goes between the turbo and the inlet of the motor, if its full of oil your turbo is f&$ed. This could be the cause of your miss, but more likely would be responsible for any smoke you car blows.

just for your knowledge, the turbo is made up of 3 parts.
the silver coloured bit is the compressor housing, the cast iron bit on the drivers side that is probably rusty is the exhaust housing, and the bit in the centre is just called the centre, or the core,

if the turbo isnt blowing oil into your motor, the oil on the outside of the core could be caused by a loose or leaking oil feed line, or if its on the bottom an oil return line.

hope that helps.

Paul.

well, umm in the core i believe is where it's leaking... it;s only smoke as far as i can tell, but yea the car is blowing a bit of smoke..it goes hard but..

also there's like a bit of oil in the bov, and the miss in the engine is ONLY when the car is off boost e.g. -2 to -4 , and @ -5 it's fine - this is all read off the cars boost guage

gonna get a compression test done tomorrow...

got the compression test done - 120 psi in all 4 cylinders...so phew - it's not a valve...

adjusted the air / fuel mix a lil, that made it run a lil smoother, but still unacceptable, when off boost. i noticed today that there's an air leak somewhere around the throttle body...

took the car to a turbo joint, and they said that the leaking turbo wont be causing the problem, but rather the air leak will....

so alas, tomorrow, i jam a peice of hose in my ear, and listen lol!

kramer ive been having all those exact problems....even the air leak.....cant for the life of me find where it is....lol, my turbo and bov leaks like a bitch...... but the bov leaking is just due to a worn engine....

well paz - here's how u find the prob - and also how i'm gonna do it...

i seen a mechanic do this once....

go grab a peice of hose - like thin and flexible..

put one end to your ear, and listen, while moving the other end around the engine bay, till you find where the niose is coming from....then i'll be plugging the fucker, and hopefully that's all that's wrong....I HOPE!
