Lifters can be done without removing the head, gotta take the cams out though to do it. As for the price, I would think a couple of hundred for new lifters.

I think i asked nissan a while ago and it was something like $800. and they only sell in a set of 16.

Tony they can come out without taking the head off. The cam needs to come out though and you need needle nosed pliers to get them out.

i replaced 8 lifters last year that i had totally annhilated.

the total cost was $198 for them all, which i had gotten for a good price.

$24.75ea. im pretty sure they were $32ea before i got them cheaper.

You dont neccisarily need to replace all the lifters in your engine. get them checked out by an engine builder. there is a guy in Tuggerah that does pretty good work, or if your willing to treck it down my way, Thornleigh Cylinder Heads is an awesome place to go to. Nassif and Anthony are extremely skilled engine builders, and work on top fuellers aswell as standard engines.

i think its Ezy Motors... yeah.. it is.

around the corner from maccas.. pretty sure its the second street on the right. its on the left. same street as the performance joint that has the green ET pulsar and the skylines and RX7s and shit outside it.

They did all of Tyrones and my engine work when we were living up there. real honest blokes. i havent been too happy with their work, although they do a good job..

im really really anal when it comes to engine work though. they are more than good enough to have a look at your car. you will probably need to take the head off though.

Considering the relatively low price of the replacement part, and also the effort involved in replacing them (ie removing camshafts) I would more than likely recommend changing all of them, even if some haven't started playing up yet.
I would much prefer to know that all of them are replaced than the possibility of having to re-remove the cams again in 12 months time when the lifters you didn't replace start making noise.

yea I got my set for 300 full set...

if your using second handies your supposed to use the cam too... and put them back in the same spot they cam from... as they get "worn" in to the cam lobe angles... Thats what I heard anyways... why builders label them I 1-8 and E 1 - 8 if re-using.
