hey guys need some help have nearly finnished wiring in my ecu and got to the tps now heres where i hit the delimer the starndard TPS has tow wires a pos and a neg and the aftermarket ecu wants a signal earth and pos so thats three?? my question is do i need the signal one? i'm guessing i do so what do i do to fix it?

what engine are you running??
what ecu are you using??
what does the instructions say??? what does the ecu want?

ems dual sport and it says pos wire signel wire and a neg wire? i just don't get the signal park and it's a ca18det

maybe it wants a variable TPS.
The original TPS is a ON and OFF switch. But the S13 has a variable sensor.... which puts out a resistance signal.... But that is on a seperate harness... but stillpart of the TPS.
did that make sense

a little. but still really confusing? how do i get around it?

i'm not familiar with EMS.
you might need to find a compatible TPS and see if you can fit it to the manifold
OR work out what kind of signal it wants?? like does it want a on/off signal OR does it want a variable signal... such as 0v to 12v signal

thats the thing i dont know? will it all ready asked for a pos which i;m guessing would be 12v and a neg which would be 0 but another question is whats the third pin for on the tps?

3rd pin may be the signal wire for the TPS, as Gary mentioned the S13 TPS is variable.

both N13 and S13 TPS have a variable output, as well as functioning as an idle switch.
There are 3 wires coming from the bottom of the TPS (not the socket on the front of the TPS with 3 pins) - one is signal (0 - 5v IIRC, voltage rises as throttle is opened) and not sure what the other 2 are (i'd assume +12v & ground though but you can test with a multimeter).
I'd think its these your ECU needs to be connected to. You may also need to connect the idle switch part but the ECU may be able to work out when throttle is closed by the voltage from the variable output, thus negating the need for the idle switch signal.

huh ^^^ so all i gotta do is hook it up to the wires that are coming out of the tps ont the pulg that plugs straigt on?

yes, i believe so.
You need to test with a multimeter what those 3 wires are though. Or i guess if you can find it in the manual, it should say which is which.

hmmm intresting

hey man...
I'm not sure what the voltage input is supposed to be, it may need to be 5v? You'll need to test this on a working car, however I do know thismuch.
the white is a variable output. Without power added its a 0-10K ohm variable resistor, so it varies the resistance to that centre white wire and therefore has a variable output acording to throttle position.
IE closed throttle the "closed throttle switch closes" and the resistance on that white wire would be either high or low, I think its low.... so almost no voltage. then open the throttle and the idle switch opens and the voltage goes up with throttle position.

NOTICE - the bottom pin on the TPS isn't used. Also this is an S13 TPS, I think they are all the same but you'll need to check. ALSO - the standard ECU/WIRING may have the earth / idle trigger around the other way. if using aftermarket it doesn't matter, as it is a simple throw switch.
I'd need to see the wiring schematic for the ECU to tell you exactly.. most will have a calibration when your laptop is plugged in, where you turn ign on and then leave foot off, calibrate closed thrott, then flat to the floor and hit calibrate and thats your WOT position...

u ledgande this is the ecu wiring diagram! the loom came out of a ca18det Exa (apperntly) and i'm pretty sure it came out of Blocka's exa which was bloods and packys.. mines a s13 to so hopfully it'd be the same. the wires on the loom tho are weird cause it's a two pin plug for the TPS and there the pos and signal wire no neg? (it's like a injector plug but it's not for the injectors cause i have traced the wires n stuff n mached it to the diagram) any help would be awsome cause this is holding me back a bit.

ok dude the EMS doesn't use a closed throttle trigger at all, so the plug on the body of the TPS isn't used.
its the three wires coming out of the side of the TPS that you need. and it looks right aii.
PIN 21 on the EMS goes to red on the TPS plug
PIN 7 on the EMS goes to white on the TPS plug (trigger)
PIN 3 or just any GROUND signal goes to the black on the TPS.
that help?

Also dude the relay up the top right that runs Injector power, Coil power and Fuel pump power... being some wierd looking multiple output relay can be replaced aii..
you could use the green or pin 27 to trigger the factory fuel pump relay, wiring for that should be in the factory ECU lume somewhere...
and the rest, IE power to the injectors and ign coils should be a matter of triggering the ECCS relay in teh factory lume on ign on... which I'm not 100% but it should do that anyway if all your doing is splicing into the factory lume to install this?
I miss figuring this shit out... lol, maybe I shoud install an ECU in someones car soon, I'm getting antsy.... haven't done it in a while... hahahaha.. maybe mine....hmmmm

hey man did aqny body tell u ur a floppin ledgand cause u r!!! thanks heaps people hepls massivly..
oh and wheres the fuel pump relay? not really splicing it in cause the other loom got very munted.

IIRC its under the steering column. Its the one on the passenger side end of the row of relays. (last one on the left side if youre sitting in the car)
110M on the car's harness.

Fuel pump relay is the third one along above the fuses in the fuse box, was playing around with one on Saturday.
Also Ben the motor in my Exa that that Ecu came off was a U11 DET too, not S13. Josh has done it yet again, I hadn't seen this thread yet.
