get some 3way 6X9's. will give u your sub fix. but you'll never get the bass affect without pure subs.

Yeh man... i recon some of the best sound system (around here) have no subs (but thats coz ppl with subs dont really understand tha music that they play so it doesn't sound all that great)
Get yourself a good H/U i suggest an Alpine with the 'bass engine' technology (BBE) as this will help sooo much when u have all your speakers in fine tuning to the type of music u listen to!
Get the best sounding splits u can afford for tha front and once again the best 6*9's u can get for the rear with the money u have to spend!
That should be enough to get you going and give u a great sound staging effect.
Now all you need is the perfect amp/s to run the speakers.
So using the speaker specifications you will be able to find a very nice amp to suit and relitivly cheap!
Some ppl will tell u to buy the amp 1st (the biggest u can afford) but i think that is BS. Coz then u may end up with an amp that isnt quite right for the type of speakers u realy like and end up having to get some other ones that arn't quite as good.
Anyway thats my say!!!
Let us know what u think man! And maybe what u end up doing!

Actually i dont know why i didnt think of this b4 BUUUUUUUT
there are these things called 'bass drivers' i have heard a clarion bass driver and it cranks!
Basically they are AMPs with built on 6" Subs not much bigger than a decent sized amp!!!
It might be worth checking these out!
I was considering gettin one to go on tha back of tha drivers and passengers seats!!!

i've heard stories about those bass drivers before... if it's what i'm thinking of you put them under your seats and they are suppose to rattle the shit out of your car.. unfortunately this is all they do and they end up pissing u off more than anything

nar dood... some people use then like that...
but no used properly they are very good i've heard clarion bassdriver in action and i must tell u that i was impressed!
They are designed for sound systems in Utes/dualcabs ect
'Subsonics' are nice too, not for the sound part but for the whole *ground shaking sensation* they fit inside the seats and vibrate to the bass... or the sesativty you set them to.

Jaycar Electronics was selling those bass drivers a while back for under $40 each, and they may still have them. They are from some backpack that was designed as a virtual reality accessory back in the mid 90s.

what about kenwod 7x9s for bass? I am considering getting these until I have enough money for a sub setup. Anyone got 7x9s?

i dont know what size the Kenwood range of magents and speaker rise are but i know for sure that all other brands that make 7*9's and larger have a rise that will not fit in our cars!
If a company would only make 5*9"s then all us exa ppl would be happy as happy can be!!!

ok guys, this isnt rocket science, u can have subs and not loose a single inch of ur boot or your back seat!!! how u might ask?? get a sheet of mdf... and build a rear parcel shelf that runs from the top of the back seat to sit flush with the rear hatch. the cut a big ass hole in it and stick a "free air" subwoofer in there (doesnt require a box). Pioneer make these subs and they are good quality, just stick the sub in the hole and carpet the rest and walla! sub in the car and not boot space or rear seat lost, a very neat install too! thats my suggestion,

Sounds goo in theory.
How much weight is going to be on that shelf 10, 15kg plus the weight of the mdf?
Fixing a parcel shelf into a hatch will get you defected. Because you are fixing the shelf to plastic not metal, if you stop fast , you run the risk of having you subs fly forward and hitting someone.
I've seen this happen it dont look prity trust me. I'll try and find some picks, most of the people have died, and the car hasnt even hit any one else
This also aplys if you are putting 6x9's on the shelf the weight alone from the mdf will rip it out.
You ask what about factory parcel shelfs, they get away with it because the speakers are not on the shelf there normalyto the sides of the shelf, and its made out of plastic stuff, and also when the hatch lide is down it stops it from being lifted up from the back.
Well any way sorry ET to burst you bubble, but if the police see it and if they know what they are doing they might just ask for $180 and two points.

there is a problem, u can work around it, just secure the parcel shelf into some metal in the hatch... if u cant find metal, buy some bolt it in then bolt the shelf onto that! i dunno but i've seen many people do this and never heard of anyone being defected for it, however in saying that i understand where 16RMC is comming from as this might be a big saftey issue, worth looking into tho, every problem has a solution, find it and work around it... good point 16RMC, cya guys,

I don't think sound systems are 'complete' without subs.. because basically you're not getting all of the music i.e. the bass notes. Bass is what makes music sound good too and gives it depth. It's all up to personal taste though I guess. 6x9's should give sufficient bass though if installed properly and given enough power. :)
