View Full Version : No Wastegate

I replaced my high flow T2 with a T25 today. The vacuum fitting for the wastegate doesn't fit so at the moment it isn't fitted and the wastegate isn't working. I guess the factory pressure release will cut in at 9 lbs boost. Will it do any harm driving it around like that?

i wouldnt recomend it, your turbo will be boosting its brains out,
the motor probably wont see more than 9 psi, however the turbo will be spinning at 200000rpm and pumping 25si of boost, which is not really good for it.
if you do run the car like this, keep off the gas pedal, and dont boost it up too much

modify your t2 wastegate to fit on the t25 like i did, it does work and it gives you 9psi stock boost.
its very easy to do as well just needs a bit of experimentation

I bought a fitting from Pirtek that goes in straight instead of on a 90 degree angle and it's fine now. While I was at it I fitted a T piece and ran a hose to a deoderant can to get that extra spike of boost. It's a completely different car to drive now. Power comes on faster and harder. Lots of fun. :D

Don't have any pics. You just cut the wastegate actuator hose close to the actuator end. Fit a brass T piece and run a hose from there to a can mounted near the battery (or any convenient place). Drill the centre out of the little raised piece of aluminium at the top of the can leaving the raised sides. A brass fitting will then just tap itself into the top of the can. Whole job took me about 10 mins. I'm thinking of trying a larger can to see if it makes it spike even more. I have a Selley's degreaser can waiting. :D

What does that achieve if i may ask ?

You don't want it. :D It makes the boost come on a bit harder and earlier as it delayse the opening of the wastegate.

There is a reson people like this mod....
engines dont like high boost at high revs, however they are quite capable of handling higher boost at moderate revs.
The can setup takes advantage of this by allowing a fair bit of overboost during the mid rev range, but bring it down up top....
this saves your engine alot more than just running high boost all the time.
