i went to the store today enquiring about platnium spark plugs for me car, the guy said i should buy iridium plugs instead.
What i dont get is why iridium is less expensive if it's better then platnium???
anyone know which is the beter one???
only a few bucks difference, but i want the best for my car!
any help would be groovy!
excuse my spelling!

Iridium is definately the better conductor over platinum, but the difference isn't as big as that in platinum over copper.
My only guess about them being less expensive is that they are a new plug design & therefore possibly cheaper to produce due to the equipment used or maybe less waste in production. Another reason could be that Iridium plugs are *possibly* more mass-produced than Platinum ones now - but I doubt that would affect things too much - if it is true.
I've seen several tests done between Platinum & Iridium plugs, and on most cars it seems you might notice a little more smoothness here & there, but power gains are only repeatable at a few extra Kw on 300kw+ vehicles. So nothing to stress about really.

Actually i'm interested in a set of NGK Iridium to replace my NGK Platinum. If anyone's done this give us a bell.

From what ive heard platnums last about 100,000 kms, where as Iridius have a much shorter life (dont know what it is though).
Hope that helped a little.

NGK's website says
Iridium 0.8 mm dia. 160,000 kms Extremely long service life. Same level of ignitability 0.8 mm dia. Platinum
Iridium 0.6 mm dia. 100,000 kms Long service life. Same as 0.8 mm dia. of Platinum and extremely good ignitability characteristics. (Better than 0.8 mm dia. platinum or 0.8 mm dia. iridium)
so basically the same as plat

WOA SHIT.. iridium plugs there in AUS are CHEAP. DAYYUUMM. Here in the US. Bosch platinums at my work are like 5.99 a plug and at the special import store, where they have the NGK iridium plugs, the NGK iridium ones are like $10.00 - 14.00 USD!!! and they dont even carry them for my engine lol, it figures. Ahhh yes... but they did come with Delco management systems, and I know of a pretty quick Pulsar Q running one with just an exhaust tip (useless heh, but it sounds bloody nice, thought it was a full system!). Would give quite a few exa's a scare,
