hey lads,

just signed up, i'm looking at getting an '83 exa, completely stock and well worn, this doesn't matter a great deal coz its gunna be cheap, lol. anyways, i was wondering if anybody on here knows if a transplant from the E15ET thats currently in it, to a toyota starlet gti motor is possible at all?? if its not, does anybody know prices of a CA18DET around central queensland??

cheers, alby.

The GTi motor would be a better option then the CA18DET for an N12, but isn't the GTi motor a SOHC? I'd rather the 1.5 SOHC Turbo to a 1.3 SOHC Turbo. Just my thought ;)

Hey,
Definately builkd a hot e15et. You'll save heaps of cash, time, hassle and heart ache. The quickest e15et engines in the country are just as quick as the quickest Startlet engines, maybe even quicker - they just gotta get drive shafts to hang together. The "heavy hitter" in e15et racing is snapping billet driveshafts everytime he finds traction. Apparently over 200kw at the front wheels from a baby 1.5 litre SOHC... Damn impressive... Watch him dip from 12.20 to well into the 11's as soon as he can fix the driveshaft prob...

sorry to break it to you but the starlet gt motor is probably better than the e15 turbo engine.

and why shouldn't it be? it was created approximately 10 years after the exa turbo engine!
the turbocharger (CT9A from memory) is small and uses a ceramic exhaust wheeled turbo charger that builds boost fast and holds it well!

being 10 years newer also means more parts are available for it, and it will be generally more reliable.

not to diss the exa turbo engine at all, they are wicked fun to drive ( i nearly bought a pulsar ET turbo as a get around car a few months back but it was a bit rooted).

a starlet gt engine into an E12 exa would be awicked transplant and would hammer hard. cost effective too!
