i no there is a shit load of people in this club who want 2 chop there shifters im not saying its bad but i just want to let u's no what happened to me and my exa today which has ashort shift which has had a short shift since ived owned it ..
im driving down hunter st. (newcastles main st.) go to change it in to 3rd and then snap ..

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeep the whole gear stick snapped in half

where u chop it and then weld itback on so there is thread for the knob ... well the welding gave way and my hand went flying forward with the half of the gear stick and the knob .. . i was stuck in the middle of the road the car wouldnt change out of neutral because there was no way of changing gears

im not sayin this is goin to happen to u if u chop ur shifter but it happened to me and it was no fun at all and i could see if it happened at the wrong time to be really dangerous ..

any way this is a good chance for me to change to a standered size pole .... that wont snap over some dodgy welding.

Actually, cutting the shifter down is not the ideal way to make a short shifter anyhow, what you want to do is change the pivot point, if you look at our shifters they have a ball in socket pivot. Now, if you mofe that pivot up closer to your hand, the throw on the top becomes less, and the throw on the bottom more...

Remember, your effort will rise, the more you change the pivot point, most people add weight to the shifter to help account for this, and help the balance.

hrmmmm ur prob is the WELDING bit!!!!! u cut the shifter then GLUE ur new shift know on!!!! dont bother welding the thread on, if u cut the shifter then glue the new knob to it u will not have any problems!!!!
is anyone else getting sick of me saying this all the time?!?!?!?! its not a dificult concept people!!!!

im not the person who cut it in the first place .... i wouldnt waste my time for somthing no one can really see unless there in the car. once u start cuttin even if u glue the knob str8 on, problems will still rise ... people need 2 ask them selfs is it worth it to hav a little shifter which is spose to make gear changing quicker which it doesnt .. gear change seems easier, faster and smoother with long shift ..its not a difficult concept 2 understand either .

the long shifter just pissed me off cause it felt like i was driving a truck.... quick shifts werent exactly the thing i had in mind hehehehe and if this is what people are cutting their shifters for then i agree dont bother hehehe but if ur sick of changing the gearstick around near ur nose then cut it!!!

lol well u should see mine at the moment i feel like a truck driver ive just a steal pole and some tape holdin the knob on ... untill tomorrow when i get my new pole ... lol its huge but still smooth .
