whos taken their alternators out, how exactly did you go about it. i've got all the bolts off that mount the actual alternator but i cant get the damn thing outta the engine bay. one of the guys from work says he remembers working on a cherry in england and to get the alternator outta that they had to take off the rear engine mount and push the engine forward?? is there any other way around it? i was thinking of taking out the brake master cylinder and stuff but theres a lot of stuffing around and dont wanna risk air in the brake lines, i know flushing is easy but to much effort.

so please enlighten me how do we get the alternator out?

ive done this on both an E16S and E15ET exa and u didnt need to remove anything major.. for the E15E i needed to take out some things like the airbox.. that was all tho..
how could the turbo be much different?? take a photo if possible!!

the starter is pisseasy to take off lol

standard air box was ditched awhile ago for pod. the afm and pod are off, its not a turbo engine. below are photos above and below (not really to useful)

easy, got it out in 1/2 hour. Jack the car up and remove the plastic splash guards from underneath the alternator. Undo all the bolts holding the thing in, and it should slide out the bottom after twisting it around. You will have to undo the little triangle bracket aswell.

This was with a Hitachi alt, dunno if you have a Bosch one or not....offtap2:

yeh its a hitachi, the splash guard disappeared a few months ago i'll have another go tomorow then i guess, i'm in no hurry as i still have to get the new alternator to put in, hopefully i'll get it to drop out the bottom tomorow.

if you cna get it out without pulling anything off you are VERY lucky.
i have found the best way is to remove the drivers side drive shaft from the hub and swing it to one side, the alternator will then come out the bottom.
alternatley, you can undo the mastercyl from the boost and take it through the top.

taking off the master cylinder from the booster you still have to disconnect the brake pedal dont you?

got this hint off the e15et group "Remove the mount from the block and it drops out from underneath."

removing the drive shaft should be easy enough as well...

i unbolt the 2 screws which holds the brake master cylinder and just move it off a little bit still connected to everythiing though.. that should get you enough room to take the alternator off.. its the easiet way to do it.

I dont know how this works..
i have changed my alternator twice, ive had a hitachi, then a mitsubishi, then a hitachi again.
Neither i, my dad (mechanic) or my friend (auto electrician) could get it out without pulling the drive shaft or master cyl off!
the auto elec spent about 45mins trying cause i couldnt convince him that the reason i had my car on his hoist so long was for this reason.

different alternators must be different sizes or something, i dunno how it works

Strange. To remove the alternator from my 83 Exa all I do is remove the mount from the engine block and with a twist it drops out from the bottom. It's a Hitachi.

this is a biatch, from teh top with either fuel rail loosened or with mater cyl 2 bolts removed all lines still connected,
driveshaft removal for an alt ???(the boschies are the biggest) dont know about that one, seems pretty long way around:fingers:

fuk thats rite!!
EFI has it on the back
Carby has it on the front!!

the only way is to take out the drivers side driveshaft.. UNLESS you partially dissassemble the alternator while in there which i do not recommend as its easy to lose bits!

on my EFI Non-Turbo E15E, all i had to do was remove the lower alternator bracket to get out the Hitachi Alternator...

not sure which one pulsar parts is sending me, my guess is it'll probally be a bosch one so i'll see how i go about getting that sucker in there.

the reason i had to remove the drive shaft was that i had the et turbo disk brake rear end conversion, meaning i had a master cyl with 4 line output rather than two, so moving the master cyl to one side was not an option.

it is a simple job, undo 3 nuts and swing the drive shaft out of the way... piece of piss.

I also had the same problem - but with some brute force and twisting the Hitachi fell out the bottom - and the new one went back up quite easy.
45Mins to remove - 10 to re-install - thats murphys law for you
