prob around the 1500 mark, get a price but keep the following in mind.
import replacement box, $500
n13 sss LSD box conversion kit $1500
for the same price as recoing the stock box, you can buy the kit and box to convert to LSD, and the n13 box is a million times stronger.

oh yes so 2 things.
1. is the import replacement just a bolt on thing?
2. where do i get the n13 kit from? and what does it involve? and does it have to be the LSD box?

what i hate most are the freeways. in 5th gear i cant accelerate or it pops out. so i have to downshift to 4 and put some boost on

Same here. Lucky I'm 196 cm tall so I just rest me knee against it. Not uncomfortable at all. ;)

bad luck to those who have 5th gear problems and noisy boxes..
mine makes no noise and stays in the correct gear.
there is the smell of burning clutch though:D

Melb is a bit far, and it hasnt really been discussed in detail on E15ET.
Just wondering if you walked into a decent gearbox shop in ya home town, if you could say mate an N13 box to my E15ET, would they be able to do it for under $2.5k?!
Worth asking around I guess.
$2.5k is 2 and a bit gearbox rebuilds or 5-8 2nd hand boxes. sounds like good value to me if ya constantly breaking boxes!

rocco's performance quoted me $1500 to fit the lsd box, that was custom adaptor, cvs, hydralic clutch conversion and all the bits and bobs.
This was about 3 years ago.
It was discussed on the e15et forums about 3 odd years ago, though not in detail it was discussed quite a few times.
i cant see the point of spending that much unless you are punching out 200 odd kw, just buy a jap import one, thats my opinion.

In regards to your gearbox probs, check all your engine mounts. This is a common problem because the engine mount bolts break or twist or the mount itself is stuffed. Then your engine and gearbox aren't in the right spot and the gear selector is out of alignment so it pops out of gear all the time...
Synchro's dont hold the gear in position they slow down or speed up the gears so they slide in smoothly. Change synchro's only when you crunch into gears or are building a box...

Good info mates. Does the jap import box just bolt on with no mods?
And the engine mounts, stupid question but what do i check for?
if i need new ones how much?

another common problem i have seen is the selector linkage.
if the bushes are worn, or its not adjusted correctly it can cause it.
the bushes im talking about are where the selector linkage meets at the gearbox in the uni joint.
the gearlever can be adjusted by undoing the 4 screws at the base of the gearstick, and by moving the whole fulcrum assembly forward or back depending which way it needs to go. I think it needs to go forwards.
