Hi. . From what I can remember, I think I saw some thread about replacing the stock AFM for a bigger hot wire one without that stupid flap. Am I right? If so, which of these AFMs can be used for our lovely Exas? ANd what modifications are required ?

there would be quite a lot of mods involved.. getting a 500 dollar s/h microtech might be a better bet so you could get rid of everything
the afm is not 'that' resttrictive, a 13 sec quarter has been achieved with one

i think the hotwire afm you are talking about is the one off the rrc import motor.
while it maybe a hot wire rather than flap type afm, the difference in restriction will make sfa change.
As said above, for what it would cost, you could do another mod to gain more power, eg. intercooler, bigger tb, big alloy wing, neon window squiters and exhaust tip... that sort of fun stuff!

I get yas! So umm... assuming that I build that Microsquirt ECU with the Motorola Map sensor, can I throw out the AFM?

no no, the 'megasquirt does not have provision for 360 degree +ref CAS nor any timing facility, you would have to get an e16 electronic dizzy with spring weights advance and still no timing control,(a completely backward step) this ecu is for OLD shit that never come with efi or has old jet-tronic on it
some megasquirt stuff can be configured with megaspark but this is actually 2 controllers strapped togetha, not an overly convincing package (2 programs reqd for fuel and spark) and not cheap when you consider this....the mega view is also a 3rd controller!!!!
the hotwire AFM are RRC engines with the CA style 16bit ECCS not the 8 bit on BRC n12....
no the code is completely different for the 2 meters.
1 (hotwire)is setup as a SQuare root extraction based on instrumentation principles and the other is linear/proportional cause its a flap in a hole and air will move it accordingly!!!

i get ya. so if i get a map sensor, assuming i only want an EFI controller, can i cut some wires from the stock ECU and plug em into the megasquirt? (and throw away the AFM)

ok, so how are you goin to light it all up?
megasquirt is backward step for eccs distributor/cas style engines,
who wants to make less power?

i have no idea, thats what i wanted to ask.
backward step? i wanted to make an ECU similar to aftermarket ones.

then ya better off getting one that will talk to your CAS.
