Try advancing the timing, although you have to be careful coz advancing CA16 and CA18 timing is a bit tricky. Use synthetic oil (Mobil 1 I recommend), and synthetic tranny fluid(Motul). The viscosity of synthetic fluids will free up some HP. These are inexpensive mod.

Well, inexpensive if you don't count that synthetic oil is 2-3x more expensive than regular. I'm using 10w-30 Mobil 1 sythetic, and it fixed my sticking lifter.

mine is a 1.6 (ca16de)
it is "bored" out to approx same capacity as the 1.8 ( ca18de)
it is a bit more power compare to otehr ca16de's

Jason what exactly is wrong with your car? You said it runs but it blows smoke, isn't that just the head gasket? That isn't $1000+ to fix. Find out whats wrong with it and ask some club members their advice so those prick mechanics don't rip you off.

actually now this topic cood be in the n13 area cause it deals with technical stuff, but anyway. Adding an MSD ignition system, or headers, or just a cat back exsaust and muffler will help alot. I got a ga16I and I got liek 5-10 more HP, so you'll prolyl see more result.

Well try runnin an ECU diagnostic test and see whats the matter. replacing the engine may not actually fix a lot. Leaking hoses can be fixed and my car blew smoke till i fixed the 02 sensor and the PT unit. The engine may be fine.

Ok.
under the passanger seat is a bit of plastic, undo all the screws you can see at the front and at the back of the thing under the seat the pull out the metal looking thing. On the side is a screw and 2 lights. remember what position the screw is in and turn your ignition on and turn the screw as far clockwise as it goes. Then wait and the lights will flash. First it flashes 2x and there is a break then it flashes three times and a break. As soon as it flashes 3x turn the screw back to how it was and wait.
The lights will then flash and give you an error message, say the green light flashes 5x and then the red one 4x then the error code is 54. It'll keep doin this till it has done all of the errors. When it's finished and just starts repeating the codes just turn the ignition off and put everything back how it was.
Reply on this board what the error's are and we'll tell you hwat they mean.

Hey,
I got a whole (or was a couple of days ago anyway - been ravenged for bits!) CA16DE, so if you need any parts or a near complete engine, let me know! Selling all parts very cheap! Check it out in the "buy and Sell" forum,
Sam

Is this only for the N13? or does it apply to the N12 as well?
