posting again :hitwall:
My car has developed a coolant leak from hose a located at the back of the motor just above the driveshafts....
Now the problem is trying to reach the little bugger.... My mech had told me that its a bitch of a job to do and hasnt got time to do it. So he told me to see Nissan who have quoted me $400 on labour to change it over...
ive really got no idea or time to do it myself, so if anyone can see a quick fix solution or if anyone has experienced a problem with this little bastard of a hose, I would value ur input... Apparently this is a common problem on exas so I guess everyone would benefit from hearing some solutions
thanx people :)

yep i had the same problem. the hose was split and spewing out coolant by the time i got to the mechanic... it just gets worse and worse. if u gotta drive, leave the radiator cap half off to let some pressure out..
my mechanic replaced the hose and only charged me 1 hour of labour ($66).. *phew*
but it was a bitch to replace.. underneath the manifold at the back of the engine.
he said the hose had a sharp bend in it, so when he put the new one in, he ran it through a smoother route..
good luck

thanks man, but how did he get to the hose? Did he have to take anything off to get to it, or did he just reach behind there some way?
If only it would cost me $66!!!!!!! where abouts is ur mechanic located?

wtf 1hr labour.. is this guy like really flexable cause the only way i see fit to change that hose is either pull the motor out.. or full half the motor apart...

hehehe.. probably a different hose to the one you are talkin about.. i think he had it up on the hoist and got at it from underneath.. but i really dont know much more :(
he's just a normal mechanic, not the flexible type at all :bounce:
also he probably undercharged me because i work next door and have known him for a year or more..
good luck with it... dont go to nissan.. major ripoff..
i'm trying to find a mechanic with any time to spare.. but they all seem to be really really really busy. i had to wait days to get the coolant hose fixed.

Hey Chad
I'm glad you didn't go through Nissan, that price is unbelievable. I had a couple of hoses go on the back of my motor, and I know for sure it didn't come to over $200, can't remember exactly what it was though.
I asked my mechanics how they did it, and a scared look came over their face, they just said they had to get it up on the hoist and squeeze their hands up in there and try like hell. Wasn't much technique, but they got the job done, also replaced it with a thicker pipe from a Commodore which they cut down to size.
Good luck man

yeah that hose leaked on me too i changed it in about 45 minutes but it was a bugger as engine was still hot etc any way i think i got a hose from a falcon or something and cut it down to the right size
depending on which way the clamps are facing i used a small ratched and stubby flat blade and undid the clamps then stuffd around till i got the new one on (im assuming this is the U shaped hose)
think i removed charcoal canister and its bracket which alowed me to ge my arm up behind manifold u may need a torch also to see where the hose is. It really isnt that hard to do but requires alot of patience

Cost me $210 - 4 hours labour, pulling the manifold off and $10 for the hose..... no discounts this time as i didnt know the bloke, but he did a good job!
