most suspension companies DONT do it, as it can have some bad effects on ur car and they dont want to be held responsible.
it shouldnt cause too many problems, handling would be a little off, and remembering its lower to the ground, it still bounces just as much, so u got more chance of hitting something (eg. speed ups)...
with any cutting or shorter coil overs, u can onli prolly drop it MAX of 2 inchs before u need to change the shocks....

i cut the springs on my old pulsar, it was actually better after i cut them than before.
The reason being that when i cut them, i cut the softer progressive rate coils out, not the stiffer coils at the other end.
If you do decide to do it, make sure you cut the progressive coils, these are the thinner metal and the coils are more closely bunched together.
I think i cut about 1.5 coils out, which lowered it about an inch and a half to two inches.
saying what i did above, i put kingsprings in my exa and my 200, they significantly improved handling, and were still captive (chopped springs are not)
so they are both legal and safe.

i highly recommend not cutting your springs.
if you get pulled up you will be defected on the spot and your car taken off the road until it's in roadworthy condition.... not just the springs.
it is a very unsafe practice. lowering your springs will affect how your car performs. your insurance company will not want to know you.
standard springs are made out of thinner steel than lowered springs.
it's just bad practice.

scraps - putting bigger wheels on your car will actually make it MORE bumpy, due to the fact that you will have lower profile tyres, and hence less side wall flex.
Elanore - it is not actually illegal to cut your springs, and is not defectable unless you cut them so severely that they are no longer captive. This means that if you jack the car up the springs drop out.
When i cut my pulsar ones they remained captive.
I still do not condone chopping springs, and would highly recomend doing it properly, it is cheap.
and on the topic of spring thickness, i have said it a million times before and ill say it again. Coil thickness in no way represents the spring rate or the characteristics of a spring. It is all relative to metal composition, and in the case of springs more importantly the type of heat treatment.
compare the spring from a coilover to a stock spring, the coilover spring will be thinner, yet over 4 times higher spring rate!

hey paz its not cool 2 cut ur springs cause they fall out if u hit a bump at 2 fast a speed (trust me on this) mine were cut a set of springs 2" lower will cost u about $400 from pedders and they will stay in !

not true they are illegal and defectable in oz nz and everywhere else that matters
and what was sed above is true, if u chop em too much they will fall out when u jack it up and if u go over a big bump too fast...
dont do it!
u can lower ur car professionally for $500 and that actually improves ur handling..

MMMM, cutting costs nothing, but be carefull and try just half a coil if you do, this was a good height when i tried it before getting springs, it stiffens alittle too as there is less coil.

I cut a whole coil off my on the back, the front had already been done properly . not good idea to cut em . my back wheels scrub bad now, soon as you through it into a corner. LOOKS good . I,m buying some new rear coils and shockies now , DON"T DO IT MAN!!!!

did you chop the wrong end off the spring though.
They are progressive rate, you need to cut the soft close together coils, not the stiff ones
my pulsar handled better with chopped springs, because it was much stiffer.
I could have been lucky.
I took out 1.5 coils from memory.

I PASSED REGENCY WITH CHOPPED SPRINGS IN THE BACK
not heaps low but low enough, i got done for the front ones when they jacked up the front of my car in which i played dumb cos they moved up and down around the strut and i said "oh i bought the car like that, are they chopped" he said "no there not chopped they just cant move around like that" dumbasses.
My old exa i had proper lowered rocca's springs and i chopped them, best suspension ever never bottomed out and had no body roll went over big bumps at 140 no problems, definitley do it again unless i get get coil overs (not likely)
